What's been happening @ MPS?

Book Week Parade

WOW! What an incredible display of book characters we saw at this morning's parade. From Willy Wonka to Captain Underpants and everything in between! We are very grateful to everyone for going to such an effort to celebrate Book Week - reading is my secret power! Still not sure who had more fun dressing up, the students or the staff? You be the judge!

Curriculum Day

While the students enjoyed a 'long weekend' the staff were busy at school participating in a First Aid refresher course. Our facilitator had us refining our CPR skills, addressing bandages and slings and up-skilling us in the treatment of asthma attacks and allergic reactions. Thank you to the staff for their enthusiasm and commitment towards the health and safety of our students.

Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Initiative

Our PLC Leaders (Miss Zoe, Mr Lewis, Mr H and Mr Jared) spent two solid days off-site participating in professional development. This particular Professional Learning program aims to recognise, describe, evaluate and support high quality teaching that is focused on ensuring the successful learning of all children in our school. We look forward to our PLC Leaders working with our whole staff as we continue to focus on the provision of consistent and effective teaching and learning practices at MPS.

Daffodil Day

It was great to see so many students get involved by wearing a splash of yellow in support of Daffodil Day! The SRC have collated and counted the money raised - with a grand total of $386 being donated to the Cancer Council. Thank you to our Monty families for your continued support of this worthy cause.

Writers Festival

The 2019 Melbourne Writers Festival is a 'bookish arts party' that will bring the 'City of Literature to Life'. Our Year 4, 5 and 6 students were given the opportunity to participate in a voluntary writing competition (at school) where they could compose a 'free choice narrative'. The 'panel' then read all entries and selected 10 of our talented authors to attend the Schools' Program on Thursday 05 September. Thank you to all students who entered and congratulations to the following students who will represent MPS at the Festival:

Tibaud, Shola, Chantelle, Angus, Finlay, Maeve, Claire, Molly, Tali and Jean Claude.

Administration Staff News

You may have noticed two new faces in the Office! We are fortunate to welcome Bianca Byrne and Shae Stroud to the team at Monty. We would also like to extend our thanks to Jenny Panettieri for her work in the Office and look forward to seeing her face around from time to time.

What is coming up @ MPS?

Book Fair

On Monday 26 August, the Book Fair will be officially 'open' for sales! Each grade will have a scheduled time to go 'shopping'. This week, the students spent time with their teacher browsing the books and writing 'wish lists' in preparation for this! Please remember, every book sold at the Book Fair means 'free books' for our school! A big thank you to Mrs Clancy for making the Book Fair possible and to our parent helpers for supporting this event.

Working Bee

Planting day for the new play spaces will be on SUNDAY 08 SEPTEMBER - many hands make light work! Thank you to all that have assisted in the organisation of plants - we can't wait to see this space grow!

Student-led Conferences

Please save the date! Tuesday 10 September has been approved as an "Adjusted School Day" in support of our annual Student-led Conferences. Children are notrequired to attend school on this day (Camp Australia care will be available). Students have begun preparing for this important conference where they will share some of their achievements and plan for future learning goals. The 20 minute interview, will be divided up into students sharing their learning and a progress interview with your child's classroom teacher. Bookings will open on Tuesday via Compass. Please keep an eye out on the Compass feed. For Camp Australia booking information on this day - see attachment:
