From the Senior School Sportsmaster
Last Saturday saw the conclusion of the NSW Pennant Squash competition and ISA Term 4 competitions in Basketball and Cricket. Huge congratulations must go to all our winning teams.
I take this opportunity to thank you all for the part you have played in making sure our boys have been involved in as much sport as possible throughout what has been a very challenging year.
I can confirm that at this stage a full program of sport is planned for Term 1 of 2021. We will of course keep you informed of any changes to COVID protocols as they unfold.
The new school year will kick off with the Senior School Swimming Carnival at Macquarie University Aquatic Centre on Tuesday 2 February 2021.
Have a great Christmas. See you in the New Year. Yours in Sport...

ISA Round 6 – 1st XI v St Patrick’s College @ Oxford Falls
On a very hot day at Oxford Falls, the 1st XI played off for the winners of the Term 4 ISA competition with St Patrick’s. Joe Colgan won the toss and had no hesitation deciding to bat in the sweltering conditions. He made 27 and with opener Tom Wunsch (59) combined for a 45-run stand. Wunsch batting with great determination in the heat. Wickets fell at regular intervals as the 1st XI batsmen struggled to get on top of the disciplined opposition bowling attack. It took all-rounder, Harrison O’Brien (44 not out) to boost the run rate and get the team to a respectable 9 for 170 after the allotted 50 overs. Harrison hit three 4s and two 6s in his excellent innings.
The St Patrick’s openers made a very steady start before Nick Ward dismissed both with the score at 2 for 43. A 104-run partnership ensued as the 1st XI bowlers failed to contain the aggressive batting of the next pair. At 2 for 147 the game looked gone but Liam Kinna (3 for 25) had other ideas taking three wickets in his final over to provide a glimmer of hope. As captain Colgan marshalled his troops, Ward (5 for 31) returned for his second spell and maintained the pressure with three more wickets as he relentlessly targeted the stumps. Liam Chang (2 for 17) then came back to clean up the tail with his pace.
Remarkably, the 1st XI captured 8 wickets for 10 runs in 10 overs to record an amazing 13 run victory. Full credit must go to the team who have trained and played in such a united and determined manner all term. They can reflect on a term of cricket where they markedly improved and had deserved success. They can look forward to a 6 team ISA competition in 2021 Term 1 with confidence.

Squash
As the Squash season came to a crescendo two of our SPX teams made the finals. These matches were played at the Thornleigh Squash Courts last Saturday. In an exciting morning both of our sides emerged victorious. Big congratulations go to both teams who came through against confident Knox outfits to deservedly win their final. The boys played hard as teams were very competitive, with the lead going back and forth. Spectators were on the edge of their seats and Dantae’s game going for an exhausting near 60 minutes.
SPX Team 7 in Div 8 – Oliver Mullen, Dylan Moore, Thomas Wilkins.
SPX Team 6 in Div 9 – Dantae Raic, Christian Robson, James Reagan and Cameron Smith. In what has been a challenging season it was nice to see our boys reap the rewards of much hard work.
