Curriculum- Teaching and Learning

School Wide Teaching and Learning

In each edition of our school newsletter, we share with our community an insight into the curriculum being taught within our classrooms. This reflects our school's strong focus upon continuous improvement.

Each edition covers a different area of the curriculum, and is supported by our school-wide approaches to teaching and learning.

In this edition we focus upon English, sharing with you the highlights of our recent partnership with Macquarie University, and also noting the structures we are putting in place to improve Writing outcomes in the Year Three- Six cohorts.

Over the coming weeks (if not already) your Year Three- Six child/ren may have come home and mentioned to you that they are learning about "VOICES". Voices is an acronym which provides the students with a scaffolded structure upon which to improve their writing. The Voices acronym is based upon the evidence-base of "Six Plus One Traits of Writing".

You may also hear your child talking about "writing seeds" and "bumping it up" which are two tools w use to help students think of what to write about, and then improve their writing even further.

Acronyms, such as Voices, are great ways for students to monitor where they are up to in the writing process, and to be self-directed in working to improve their writing. You will also hear the acronyms "CUPS" and "ARMS" which are two tools we use to help monitor where students are up to when editing/revising their writing.

Below are simple images which provides you with an overview of the acronyms mentioned:
