School Council News 2

A focus upon driving continuous school improvement

School Council President Report

On behalf of School Council, welcome back to the school year everyone! I'm not sure about everyone else, but I feel like the year is off to a flying start with lots of positive activity around the school.

School Council meetings resumed this week with the last meeting of the 2020 council being held on Monday 22nd February 2021. As you will know, nominations for the new School Council term recently closed, and we look forward to our community continuing to support the school into 2021.

Following our March meeting, we will be in a position to announce new subcommittees for 2021, and to give details for anyone in the community wishing to attend a subcommittee meeting. All are welcome!

In early March, we also look forward to presenting the school's Annual Report for public discussion. Details regarding this will be provided from the Principal in the coming weeks.

Master Plan Update, and Inclusive Education Grant Submission

Over the holidays and into the start of Term One, a group of Council members have been working on the submission of an inclusive schools grant, in order to enhance some of our outdoor spaces with enriched play areas and an outdoor classroom. Last week we submitted an application for significant works within the quadrangle near the outdoor stage. Our current grants team has also been tracking other grant options for us to pursue this year.

OSHC Provider Tendering Process

You will have noted in the Principal's Message of this newsletter that School Council is currently involved in a tendering process to select a new OSHC Provider. Should any of our community members wish to pass on a comment regarding this process, or wish for their viewpoint to be considered by the selection panel, please make direct contact with the Principal.

Changeover of School Council Members

In this edition of the newsletter, the Principal's Message announces the newly appointed School Council members. Therefore, I would like to personally congratulate both Llewela Humphries and Dale Seymour for their successful nominations.

As the outgoing President, I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members who are at the end of their two-year term, and who have finished on School Council for now:

  • Nick Orr (parent member)
  • Todd Pyrse (parent member)
  • Julia Collins (parent member DET employee)

We appreciate the time and thoughtfulness you have given to your positions during your term. An extra special mention to Nick Orr who is finishing up on School Council after six years! We will miss all of you, and thank you for your expertise and contributions during your terms served.

Personally, due to having recently been employed by DET, I have stepped down as President. This is due to parent members in the DET employment category being ineligible for the position of President. However, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to remain on School Council for another two-year term, and will be actively supporting the handover to a new President, as we continue to focus upon continuous improvement across our school.

Peta Cartwright

2020 outgoing School Council President

Policy Spotlight

Following on from the Principal's Piece of last week, we wish to bring your attention to the importance of being Sunsmart- both during school times and when travelling to/from school.
