Drama

The Year 9 Script and Drama class have been working on the Malthouse Suitcase Series performance project this semester. They presented their performance of the play ‘Hello World’ to a small audience on Monday.

The Suitcase Series project involves the students reinterpreting a professional script by working as actors and designers. The production process began during remote learning when the group decided to rewrite the play and to begin designing lighting, sound, costumes, set and props. Design meetings and rehearsals were conducted remotely which was a challenge the group, yet embraced in an enthusiastic manner.

Normally the students would have performed their work at the Malthouse Theatre instead it was filmed. The filmed version of the play will be shared with other schools participating in the project so that the students can compare and contrast different interpretations of the script.

As the class teacher I feel extremely fortune to have worked with this positive and energetic group of students who developed a powerful piece of theatre that communicated a strong message about climate change. They should be congratulated for their efforts!
