Senior School

Valedictory

We formally celebrated and acknowledged the wonderful efforts of the graduating Year 12 cohort through an alternative Valedictory this year.

Parents and families, unfortunately, were not able to attend physically, but were with us virtually, as we had nearly 400 people watching the live streaming online.

The students looked magnificent for the ceremony held in the DSC Stadium, and the staff at DSC were very proud to see the students receive their certificates. Congratulations to all the award recipients, and a huge thank you to the students who performed throughout the ceremony, including the Senior School Rock Band and the ‘Year 12 mash-up’ group.

Graduation Dinner/Formal

The year came to a close with the Year 12 Graduation Dinner on Friday night. Similar to Valedictory, an event that was different due to COVID, but one that was enjoyed by everyone. We were extremely lucky to hold the event out the front of the new building at DSC, as it’s an opening event. We were spoilt with wonderful catering from Spitting Image Catering and Dandee Donuts, and music and photography from J.Ish Entertainment. Speeches and ‘funny’ awards were given out, and the traditional fashion parade held.

A huge thank you to the work that Tim Sprigg and his team did to get this space ready for this wonderful event. It was fantastic to see all the students so happy and finally able to celebrate their achievements together.

VCAA Certs and USB recordings

Please note that for the families that ordered the USB Recordings of Valedictory, that there has been a delay of on the deliveries of the USBs and at this stage, won’t be available to be picked up until Wednesday, 30 December. There will be staff on-site on this date to support students with the release of their ATAR results, and therefore an opportunity for students to come in and collect their USB’s. Students will also be able to collect their VCAA VCE/VCAL Certificate on this date.

We will hold these certificates and USB’s into 2021 for those students who can’t collect these items immediately.

It’s been a true privilege to coordinate this wonderful group of young adults, who have faced unprecedented challenges in their efforts to graduate. Each and every one of these graduating students has shown resilience, strength and courage as they dealt with the normal stressors of year 12 plus a global pandemic and I wish they all the best in their future endeavours.

End of Year

As we move toward the end of the year, I want to take a moment to say well done to all Senior students for making it through the year and welcome the year 9s to Senior school. I also wanted to share some information with you about the first week of term 1, 2021.

Students will be able to check their timetable from Monday, 25 January. Year 10 and Year 12 are back at school from period 1 on Thursday, 28 January: Year 11 students start at period 2 on this day. All students are required to go to their scheduled class with their belongings where they will meet their teacher for that subject and complete a range of first-day tasks, including:

  • Moving into lockers
  • Activating school email
  • Personalising planners

All current office365/edupass passwords will be reset on Monday, 18 January 2021. Students will be given a chance to log in using their new password during their first lesson back on Thursday, 28 January.

Students are required to have a working school lock first day back next year; these can be purchased from the front office, which is open until  Thursday, 17 December.

VCAL

Students are expected to attend school on Thursday, 28 and Friday, 29 January if they have classes timetabled on Compass.

Some VCAL students will need to complete work experience in order to secure their work placement: I'm pleased to say students have permission to begin any work experience from Monday, 18 January 2021. If this work experience commences before we return to school on Thursday, 28 January, students will need to inform atEast and Mrs Ramsay before they attend.

Please don't hesitate to contact your Coordinator for next year if you have any questions. Hope you have a restful break.
