Year 8 Italian

Year 8 Food Unit: taking it to the kitchen

In my Italian class, we made bruschetta. We cooked in partners; my partner was Rebecca. It was fun to do something different in Italian, making the bread was challenging but overall a really fun experience. The bruschetta tasted really nice, it was a bit salty, but I think that the salt made the bread better. We could have added some more onions, but it was a nice meal. I would make this again if someone was coming over, but personally, I think it takes too long if you ate it by yourself. I shared mine with my family, my mum and my sister, Adele. My final dish lasted maybe a little over an hour. I would really enjoy another lesson in the kitchen because I prefer a more hands-on approach. I would like to cook some Italian desserts in future classes.

Yesterday we cooked a bruschetta with Hrydian. At first, I looked at the ingredients for the bruschetta and it looked quite simple and easy to make. It was quite an interesting experience, as I have never made bruschetta before. The bread was perfectly cooked, but too much oil and salt were added. The sauce itself was also pretty good but again too much pepper. If I was asked to make it again I would but I would also change a few things about it. I shared it with my Mum and she thought it was decent.

We made focaccias with a bruschetta topping as a part of an end to Year 8 Italian. My cooking partner was Michaela and we worked efficiently together. Being able to cook in the kitchen was fun because the last time we did cooking was food tech in year 7. I would definitely make this dish again because it was really yum and easy to cook. I shared this dish with myself because I was hungry, and it only lasted a day as I had it for dinner. In the future, I would love to have more lessons in the kitchen because they are always a fun experience and lastly if I were to cook again in Italian class I would like to make Italian meatballs with spaghetti.

Year 8 Italian Cooking

During Week 8 my Year 8 Italian, classes had the opportunity to bake a ‘Torta al Cioccolato', an Italian Chocolate cake.

Students completed preparation activities, translating the Italian recipe from their Italian Student Book. This allowed students to learn new Italian vocabulary related to ingredients and new verbs.

Students were very excited about the opportunity to revisit the Food Tech rooms that they cooked in in Year 7. It was fantastic to see the students working together in pairs, following instructions and successfully making a delicious cake.

Well done to all students!

YEAR 8 FAVOURITE RECIPES

During Week 9 my Year 8 Italian classes researched and selected their favourite Italian recipes. We collated these recipes into “Our Favourite Italian Recipe Book. Students also include the reason why they selected their recipe. We were all very excited when the books were printed as they included names in the recipe and school photos. The recipe book will make a great Christmas presents for our parents and friends.

Recipes included:

Class 8J: Sarah’s Tiramisu, Loren’s Frutti Di Mare Recipe, Jaimee’s Blissful Bomboloni, Zach’s Zinging Gnocchi, Dimi’s Strawberry Cake, Lexy’s Italian Stuffed Capsicums.
