2021 International Student Leaders

A huge congratulations to the students pictured below, Berry E (9E), Harry B (11A) and Olivia F (11A) for becoming successful applicants for the 2021 Student Representative Council and student leadership team.

Here is their reflection of their journey and vision:

I wanted to be part of the SRC to represent my fellow international students and local students to enhance our school community in which students' ideas and opinions are heard and actions can be taken to achieve the goals. During my time in SRC, I hope to focus on communication with the international and local students to bring a stronger relationship between students and teachers. I strongly believe that it is important to gain knowledge from different individuals to make DSC a better place for every student to learn, explore and enjoy their journey as school students. Being in the SRC would be the perfect opportunity.

Berry E (9E)

I was glad and excited when I heard that I had successfully entered the student leadership team. The reason why I applied for this position is that I want to help other international students become fully engaged in DSC’s activities and be a part of the whole school community. I think that I can contribute my spare time to help SLT organise some school’s activities and encourage international students to actively participate in school activities.

Olivia F (11A)

Becoming a member of the leadership team is always my dream. I was really happy when I heard that I was elected as a member of it. With my plan for the future, I want to organise an international club as I have mentioned before and also a broadcast club. Hopefully, I can fulfill this dream of mine..

Multicultural Virtual Resuscitate a Mate

Following up from our water safety session earlier this month, Life Saving Victoria delivered another online seminar on resuscitation. It was quite engaging and contained updated information that is relevant to the current COVID situation. As it was an online session, students practised their skills using their pre-prepared pillow.

From the previous activity, the CPR seminar,  I benefited a lot. The speaker taught us how to perform CPR patiently in order to save people’s life where there is an emergency.  Although I am now prepared to use this skill, I do hope that I won't need to use it in the future.

This activity is particularly meaningful for us. It teaches us the essential life skills that we are not exposed to in school. In case of emergency, it teaches us how to better protect ourselves and others

Compass Training for Parents

On Friday, 27 November, we organised a Zoom Compass training session for our Chinese Speaking Parents in Australia. It was a refreshment training and parents were able to attend on a voluntary basis. With the share screen function, we were able to demonstrate and guide our parents through the details on how to navigate Compass and how to use the different functions including browsing schedules and entering attendance notes, viewing school newsfeeds, making SLC bookings, paying for and giving consent to school events and activities, as well as downloading reports and checking the status of learning tasks. This session ran for an hour and we are hoping that it can assist our parents in better monitoring the children and help them feel more connected to the school.

Summer Holiday Care Package

Like no other years, 2020 has been unusual and stressful. We are now nearing the end of the year. The remaining COVID related travel restrictions have prevented our international students from going back to their home countries to visit their families. Being the “acting parents” of these homestay living students, the school has prepared a Summer Care Package for our international students who are staying in Australia and do not have parents to accompany them during the holiday period.

The things in the package are really useful and I like them.

The Uno cards and colouring book will help me to release stress and fill in my time to make my holidays more fulfil.

I really appreciated Ms Huang to send this care package to our international students. It is practical and it warms the hearts of international students who cannot go back to their own country due to the coronavirus.
