Hello and welcome back for another school year!
I am Julie Ryan and I am the Assistant Principal of Middle School. Prior to 2021, I have been at the college working as Assistant Principal of Senior School. And while I loved my time working with senior students and staff, I am so very, very excited to have the opportunity to work with the years 9 and 10 students and staff in the coming years.
I am looking forward to getting to know our parent community again after the restrictions of 2020 seriously inhibited our ability to have any type of extra curricular activities or community events.
I work with a wonderful Middle School student management team that are here to support students in years 9 and 10 achieve their very best. Chris Danher is our Middle School Sub School leader who oversees both year levels. Our Year 9 Student Managers are Steven Murcott and Carla Russo. Rebecca Kotsopoulos and Sakina Raza are the Year 10 Student Managers. Stay tuned in future newsletters for updates on the great things happening at Middle School this year!
Students have started well in the first week of scheduled classes. We had a uniform check last week the majority are of students are wearing their Summer uniform with pride and correctly. We expect all students to be in full school uniform by Monday.
If families were loaned a device last year, this must be returned to the college urgently so that we can provide these for the use of all students at the college. You will have received a letter last year explaining this and we will soon make contact if the device is not returned. When returning a device, these are to go straight to IT which is located in the 112 classroom in the new Senior Precinct.
I would encourage all students 8-12 to bring a device to school every day. This could be a laptop, iPad that you already have. Or, if you wish to purchase a device, we have a BYOD program, through JB HiFi and if you purchase through that, you will get an appropriate device for your child’s needs. We have learned the value of having a device during the remote learning period of 2020 and I believe that this has had a big impact on the way we now teach and learn with technology. If you need any assistance with the purchase of a device or advice around what you can bring, please contact Michael Georgiopoulos our IT service delivery manager at the college.
It has certainly been a busy year so far in IT with a move from our beloved 100s out to the Senior Precinct. It was a very hectic start to the year, but I am very proud of what we have achieved so far.
Finally, I’ve enjoyed spending time with the Middle School students during their start of year and around the yard. Of particular note today, it was great to see the staff presentations and outline of the Explore program to the Year 9s. They were genuinely excited by the presentation they received today and I can’t wait to go along with them on some adventures as they ‘Explore’ about themselves, our local community and soon enough the city!
