From The Principal

WELCOME
Welcome back everyone! It is lovely to see everyone back at Murrumbeena and to also welcome our new students and their families.
We had a very smooth start last week for Years 1 to 6 and this week we welcome all our new Preps. All seem to have settled in well and we hope everyone has a wonderful year.
OUR NEW PREPS HARD AT WORK
The focus for teachers during the first term is ensuring all children settle comfortably into their new classes, and feel happy and secure. As part of this process, all classes will develop an Essential Agreement which details shared understanding of the expected values to be followed within the classroom learning community.
Parents will be able to view these agreements at the parent information sessions next week.
Monday February 10
6:30pm-7:30pm, for Years 2, 3, 4 & 6
Wednesday February 12
6:30pm-7:30pm, for Prep, Year 1 & 5
We look forward to another year of working together to ensure our school provides the best opportunities possible for our students.
WELCOME PICNIC
A school picnic is planned for Friday March 13. This year we have planned a mini concert/fitness display, which all children will learn during the two weeks prior to the picnic date. The performance will then be outside on the oval from 5.30 – 6.30pm so that parents may relax and enjoy the display before they have their picnic from 6:30-7:30pm. I encourage all families to come along, meet new friends and old, and have an enjoyable informal evening.
STAFF
This year we welcome the following new staff members.
Mr Joshua Lowe (1L),
Miss Samantha Nasreddin (2N)
Miss Erin Green (4G)
Miss Charlotte Pile (5P)
Miss Alexandra Saxton (6S)
Mrs Fairlie Halligan (PT Fridays)
We also welcome back
Mr Damian Cripps (3C)
Welcome to all!
SANDRINGHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL
You may have heard the sad news that one of our Bayside schools burnt down last weekend.
We have offered to send them books, as they lost all their library.
We are currently collecting excess copies of books we have, but we would love donations from families of new, or near new, books that we could collect and send to them.
Please just drop them to the school office.
PUNCTUALITY AND THE COMPASS KIOSK
Please remember our school bell goes at 8:55am. Teachers have usually marked the roll by 9:00am, so if you are late you need to enter the school via the front office and log in through the kiosk. Your child/children will then take the late pass to the class and the roll will automatically change from absent to late. As this is a legal document children are not permitted to sign themselves in and must have with them a guardian or parent. We understand things happen and we all have an odd day when issues may have arrived, however we would like to reduce the number of families who are arriving late on a regular basis this year as this becomes stressful for everyone involved. It is great if you are able to drop students off at around 8:45 to avoid this issue and students have time to put their bags in their line up areas and speak to their friends, starting the day in a positive way.
SPEAKING TO YOUR CHILD OR THE TEACHER DURING THE DAY
Our lovely office staff are happy to pass on a message on to students if there is a problem with after school pick up.
If you need to drop off something to your child, please come to the office and we will pass things on.
Sometimes you need to speak to the class teacher and you can contact them through Compass, or if you wish to speak in person, try to see them before 8:50am or after 3:30pm. Alternatively, please make an appointment to see them so they can give you the attention that is required outside class hours. During learning times, please do not go straight to classes as this interrupts lessons.
CARONAVIRUS
The school will continue to send any updates about exclusions to parents via Compass.
