Mr Irwin's Message

Hello Families,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. I hope you’re doing well in the current circumstances. We admire you all for the way you’re doing the very best you can with remote learning. Your best might be very different to your friend, neighbour, what you see on Facebook or what you hear about at the shops.

That’s perfectly okay.

Continue to put your well-being and mental health first. It might be a break from remote learning for the day. It might be reaching out to myself or your child’s teacher to seek some support. It might be picking up the phone and venting to a friend. Whatever you need to do to make this period easy for you and your family make sure you do it.

In our first go at remote learning we had some special activities designed to break up the isolation and monotony of remote learning.

Next Wednesday the 26th of August we are going to have a ‘Learning can Wait’ day, designed to focus on slowing down, taking a break if need be and providing the chance for some much needed student connection. Teachers will be available as always on Google Meet, but this day’s focus will be different.

There will be an opportunity for sharing, fun games and generally just an opportunity for students to interact with peers. Alternatively, families might decide this is a day to put down screens and slow down. On-site learning will continue for those who need it on this day but the theme will be the same.

Whatever you choose to do on Learning Can Wait day, make sure you put yourself and family first. We need to keep reminding ourselves we are in the middle of a medical response and not an educational response. It’s not often a school Principal will tell you learning is a second priority but right now it is.

Please take care of yourselves, please ask for help if you need it and continue to keep doing the best you can!
