Sunday 25th of October:
Catholic Mission Sunday – 18th October 2020
The month of October is often known as Mission Month within the church. This coming Sunday, 18th October is Mission Sunday. World Mission Day, or Mission Sunday, was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1926, to remind Catholics about their commitment and support to the missionary work of the Church through prayer and sacrifice.
When announcing that Mission Sunday would proceed within the restrictions felt across the world due to COVID19, Pope Francis urged all Catholics to ‘listen to the call to mission’. He said: “Let us ask ourselves: are we prepared to welcome the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, to listen to the call to mission?”
Pope Francis also reflected on the theme of this year’s Mission Sunday “Here I am, send,” which is taken from Isaiah 6:8. “In this year marked by the suffering and challenges created by the COVID19 pandemic, the missionary journey of the whole Church continues”. He challenged that the suffering caused by the pandemic should spur Catholics to serve God and their neighbour in missionary actions, that the pandemic should not stop us from finding meaningful ways to serve others while still observing the necessary health measures.

Plenary Council of the Australian Catholic Church
The preparation for the Plenary Council of the Australian Catholic Church has been somewhat disrupted this year by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, earlier in the year Principals and many other groups in Sandhurst got an opportunity to feed into the process and preparation.
Brian Boyle the Episcopal Vicar for Education in the Diocese of Sandhurst has provided us with a roadmap for future work and consultation. The outline of the map can be accessed via the document below.
