Weird and Wonderful Wednesdays:  Lego Masters Day (www.legomastersday) Wrap

Well done to everyone for sending through your submission to our LegoMatsers Day. There were heaps of fantastic designs sent through, most of which met the design brief perfectly!

The quality of the designs made judging extremely difficult but after much deliberation, the winners ( which were announced at Monday morning's assembly) are as follows:

TREE HOUSE CHALLENGE

Year Prep: Ivy Waterworth

Year 1/2: Jax Bansgrove

FREEDOM MACHINE CHALLENGE

Year 3/4: Keagan Vong

BROBOT CHALLENGE

Year 5/6: Lucy O'Brien

Each winner received a cool Lego Pack so that they can continue to create masterpieces. Check out their fantastic work below! Hope you all enjoyed the challenge.

Weird and Wonderful Wednesdays: www.italianday

Today we celebrated www.italianday, the second of our Weird and Wonderful Wednesdays.

We began with a whole school virtual assembly and it was wonderful to see so many children dressed up in their Italian gear.

There were heaps of fun and engaging activities for children to experience including pizza tossing, live tombola with Signora Cuni, pasta making with Signorina Borg, soccer clinics and the list goes on.

A huge thank you to Signora Anderson for orchestrating the event and to Signore Lane for all the 'behind the scenes' tech work required to ensure all activities loaded correctly.

Be sure to check out our Facebook page for all the updates.

Weird and Wonderful Wednesdays: www.jumprope/olympicsday

Next week will be our third Weird and Wonderful Wednesday  and we will be conducting our Jump Rope for Heart day combined with our Olympics Day. Please see below a message from Mrs Brittney Wohling detailing events-

Throughout Term 2, Corpus Christi School participated in the Jump Rope for Heart program. Through your generosity, we were able to raise an amazing $7691 for the Heart Foundation.

We were due to hold our “Jump Off Day” - a day to showcase the incredible skipping skills that we learned, on the first Friday of this term, however, Coronavirus had other ideas!

We are now going to hold our special remote Jump Off Day - called our “Jump Off Skipping and Olympics Day” on Wednesday  2nd September.

You will need to have a skipping rope for the day. If you don’t have one, you can purchase one for $2 for click and collect or delivery from:

The day will kick off at 9:00  for a whole school virtual assembly. The highest fundraisers will be announced here, along with exciting details and events of our special Jump Off Skipping and Olympics Day.

There will be loads of fun to be had by the whole family!

Feedback

You would have remembered that at the end of the first lockdown period, families were invited to complete a survey conducted, by Orima Research and commissioned by the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria (CECV), to capture our learnings from the remote learning period. Our students and staff were also invited to contribute.

Results from these surveys were published last week both at a system level and at a school level. There were three aspects that were pleasing to note:

  • Firstly, our families were overwhelmingly supportive of the program we offered and glowing in praise for our efforts in delivery
  • Secondly, our school-based data was very much in-line with that from a system-level and;
  • Thirdly, it was reassuring to know that the adjustments we have made second time round reflected the data that was coming through from all parties namely:
    • The additional live MEETs enable students to connect more readily with their teacher and peers
    • The additional live MEETs enable timely feedback to be given and questions answered
    • Our whole school assemblies and celebrations enhance school connectedness
    • The need for explicitness in teaching
    • Our afternoon MEETs provide opportunities for enhanced wellbeing
    • 'One size' doesn't fit all and adjustments to individual learning programs are essential

For those interested, I have attached below a copy of the system-level findings as compiled by  CECV Director of Learning Services Dr Mary Oski .

Of course, we always welcome feedback and I would be happy to hear from any family as to how you think we have faired this time round. Simply email me your thoughts at principal@cckingsville.catholic.edu.au

Parent Support Group Meetings (PSGs)

Parent Support Group Meetings for families of students with diverse learning needs will be conducted on Thursday 27th August, Friday 28th August, Thursday 3rd September and Friday 4th September.

If your child's classroom teacher is involved he/she may not be available in their Google Classroom for various periods of the day. Teachers will make allowances for this through their normal timetables.

Scholastic Book Club

Scholastic Book Club has been set up for Home Delivery for Term 3!.

Families are welcome to log on to https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au/Parent/Login.aspx  and order from issue 6. Orders will be sent straight to your door!

Timetable Notice

Please be advised that on the morning of Thursday 3rd September,  all teachers will be involved in an 'online' professional learning discussion with Dr Dylan Williams, Professor of Educational Assessment at the Institute of Education.  This is a wonderful opportunity for staff and one which we couldn't pass up. While 'school' will remain as 'normal'  teachers will NOT  be hosting any live MEETs in the morning session.

Have a wonderful week

Stay safe and God Bless
