Drama Matters
OnSTAGE nominations:
On Tuesday we received the wonderful news that two of our Year 12 Drama students had received nominations for their Individual Projects: Performance, for the forthcoming OnSTAGE presentation in February 2021. OnSTAGE is a showcase of the best HSC performances from the whole of New South Wales and an acknowledgment of outstanding work. It is a testament to the creativity and commitment not just of these two students, but of the class as a whole. It is particularly encouraging for this year group as they lost the opportunity to perform in a Group Project due to COVID-19 and have had many upheavals in 2020.
The students are:
Luke Thompson: Reuben Guthrie by Brendan Cowell
Ruben Guthrie is on fire. He’s 29, he’s the Creative Director of a cutting-edge advertising agency, he’s engaged to a Czech supermodel and Sydney is his oyster…
Daniel Halverson: Who is Sylvia? By Edward Albee
Martin—a hugely successful architect—leads an ostensibly ideal life. But when he falls in love later in life, he sets in motion events that will destroy his family and leave his life in tatters.

Music Matters
It is truly unfortunate that we have had to suspend our Choir and Band rehearsals due to COVID–19 restrictions. We are still running Strings, Guitar and Percussion Ensembles and will be posting some videos. We will also be posting some video of our Year 12 HSC students' Trial performances. This will be part of our virtual “Splinters, Splashes, Stage and Sounds” presentation. The good news is that some of the ensembles have been able to run on-line maintaining our connections with the boys. I am also happy to announce that our Music Festival will be taking place, on-line, as I have asked the tutors to film the boys playing their pieces in lessons. We will then be placing performances on-line for viewing. I have also asked the tutors to announce the students and give an idea of how they have managed in lessons this year. There is still much to look forward to.
Over the last few weeks Colour Awards have been presented to the students involved in Music and Drama. We look forward to presenting our final Silver and Gold awards to the Year 12 students. On behalf of PAPA we will also be finding time to present our Year 12 students with a pen and certificate for their contribution to Performing Arts at SPX. I congratulate all students who have received an award this year.
I have also noted that some of our students have been able to sit for their AMEB exams on- line. I will relay any highlights as I receive news.
