From The Senior Sportsmaster  - Summer Season 2020

Following the disrupted Winter season that was, it is fantastic to be able to let the St Pius community know that the Independent Sporting Association (ISA) have approved a 6 week Term 4 start to our Summer season.  The ISA have confirmed that St Pius will fall into the ISA Sydney Metro Zone for competition in response to the government restrictions with regard to school sport. 

This means that our Summer sports can look forward to a full Term 4 of ISA competition with the Term 1 competition structure yet to be determined.  The Term 1 competition will happen, but will be dependent on NSW response to the COVID-19 Virus.

We are currently grading for our Summer teams in basketball, tennis, squash and cricket with registration for basketball, cricket and squash still open.  NSTA tennis registration has closed.

Sports Colour Awards

Last Friday we presented the Blue and Silver Colours for our Winter Sports.  These are the second of our prestigious Colour Awards which recognise excellence, commitment and service by students in their respective co-curricular activities. The groups presented last week were Debating, Tennis, Football and Rugby up to and including our Year 11 students. In Week 9 we will recognise our Year 12 Colours recipients for all co-curricular activities, culminating in the Gold Awards.

SPX Tennis Championships

Last Saturday we held the SPX Tennis Championships and the day was a great success. Despite stormy weather on Friday night, Saturday morning greeted us with beautiful, clear and warm weather. This was the first year we ran a round-robin style tournament for Divisional Champions and all players enjoyed the day of friendly, but intense, competition. Thank you so much to all involved, particularly Ms Black, Ms Colefax and Ms Bamber. This was a fantastic way to end such an unusual season of tennis. Congratulations to all our competitors and Divisional Champions.

Summer Swimming Squad

Training commences in Week 2 of Term 4 on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7.15 am – 8.15 am till Week 7 at Fitness First Chatswood. All students need to attend at least one training session per week and must be wearing a cap whilst training.

Debating

Congratulations to both our amazing 7B and 12A teams for their wins last week.

This week, both teams compete in the Semi-Finals, and both compete against Bede Polding College, Windsor.

There will be a panel for at least the senior debate and the event will be run via Zoom.

We will inform students of the details of the evening once our convenors have determined the evening's timeline.
