Well-being Anecdote from the Student Diary Planner

“It's funny, you know, I find the harder I work the more luck I have. "

Woodrow Wilson

As we approach RUOK Day, St Pius X College acknowledges our First Nations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and particularly the Cammeraygal people, whose interconnection with this land sustained and fulfilled them mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually, over thousands of years.

May we learn from their wisdom.

RUOK Day

Growth Mindset Theme – Jersey Day – Bring a Jersey to wear at school (Not to/ from).

Our Year 12 Wellbeing Leaders and Student Empowerment Team led by College Vice Captain Tyson McCallum, celebrate their final formal event of the year in RUOK Day this Friday 11 September. The Theme this Year: “There is more to say after RUOK”

There are an array of activities and promotions planned at school so please take the opportunity to ask your son about the day and “have a conversation” to support positive mental health.

More information can be obtained from the website: https://www.ruok.org.au/

Staff are using RUOK Day to launch Positive Education Principles in pedagogy and daily lessons featuring  recent Growth Mindset Training from Mr Rick Russo and Mr Paul Ticli.

Student Leaders' Camp

Congratulations to our Student Leadership Team 2021 who conducted their Leadership Camp under Mr Paul Ticli’s expert guidance last Friday at Oxford Falls. It was a big day followed by a session of The Speechcraft Presentation Course in the early evening and a win for our Senior Debating Team members later in the evening. Liam Chang's Leadership Team are now refining their strategic planning and initiatives to make the most of their tenure of leadership of the College. To this end on Thursday this week they will meet with their 2020 counterparts and key staff to articulate their goals. We wish all our Year 11 students well as they head into their Year 11 Course Assessment tasks in Weeks 9 -10.

Online Safety and Wellbeing

Following our Stage 3, 4 and 5 (Year 5-10) students' training by the Carly Ryan Foundation earlier this year, and in the ongoing climate of concern for the wellbeing and safety of our students online, it is timely to remind the College community of the Office of the eSafety Commission.

https://www.esafety.gov.au

Both Commissioner Julie Inman Grant and Presenter Greg Gebhart have addressed our school in recent years (2018 and 2019), and the site is a peak source of advice on protecting students online and reporting activity or material which maybe harmful to their wellbeing.

House Cup

As the 2020 House Cup reaches its final stages this week and next, student and staff leaders are frenetically finalising House Competitions with following House Points submitted this week:

Football House Cup 2020

House Points from Week 7 of the lunchtime Year 8 Table Tennis Competition

Year 8 PDHPE House Football

And the results of the Year 8 Cross Country Championship held on Tuesday 8 September

Last but not least we wish all our Year 12 students well as they continue to prepare for the HSC next term during their last three weeks as day to day students of the College.
