Deputy Principals' Reports

Deputy Principal - Year 7, 9 and 11

Ms Kerry Doyle

It has been a wonderful full term of learning for students at Evans High School. I was very excited to read the Tell Them From Me student survey results to see how students, particularly in Year 9, viewed themselves as learners and how they feel supported at school. This has been a difficult year and the transition to High School was a very difficult one for our Year 7 students. I would like to congratulate Year 7 on completing their first full term of High School with us, as well as during this time, engaging in assessment tasks and undertaking examinations and a full pattern of study. In addition I would like to thank all students and community members who speak positively and notice all of the great learning, leading and teaching as our enrollments continue to rise in Years 7 and 9 this year.

Year 7

Next term, we will attend the Brewongle Environmental Education Center, this is a Department Of Education School site. However, due to the nature of their facility we will have a full day of outdoor education. Parents will be provided with permission notes as well as COVID-19 safety information prior to the excursion. We will also be undertaking Peer Support in Term 4, re-engaging the program with a number of team building activities.

Year 9

It is now time to start preparing for the Formal Yearly Examinations that is happening next term. These will be held in the hall for many of your courses. In addition to that, it is also important to be working collaboratively with peers when needed and using class time effectively to ensure that you are completing all assessment tasks. As always, students are reminded to turn their devices off. I think that the new Netflix documovie 'The Social Dilemma' has demonstrated just how much Social Media as been developed to manipulate our minds.

Year 11

Preliminary Grades have been entered for the HSC courses and students have completed their Yearly Examinations. Please be reminded that Special Provisions for the HSC will need to be applied for in Term 4 of this year, so if you believe you may require Special Provisions, please make sure you are ready for the conversation with the Learning and Support Staff. VET work placements are looking like they will be going ahead next term for many courses which is super exciting for those students who have been working on the courses with dual accreditation.

Finally, thank you to the wonderful Year Advisers and Assistant Year Advisers of these year groups. Everyday they are mentoring our students, having difficult conversations, providing advice, assistance and clarity on a range of topics, their great work often goes unnoticed by many. So a huge thank you to Mr Satmaka and Mr Sondaar of Year 11, Mr Murphy and Ms Ghali of Year 9 and finally Ms Hanlon and Mrs Newsome of Year 7. Thank you from all of the staff and students at Evans High School.
