Classroom News - Year 6

Mr Garraud & Mrs Walters

(Not) Canberra Excursion

This week, Year 6 have been to (Not) Canberra for an excursion. Students received passports, coach tickets, COVID forms and spending money for the journey. On Monday morning we boarded the 'coach' handed out sick bags and began the loooonnggg five minute journey to our nation's capital.

After arriving in Canberra, we went to the National Gallery to select our three favourite artworks and research information about them as a 'special project' for Mr Garraud and Mrs Walters.  First break was followed by studying the Terracotta Warriors and why they were made, before making our own class set. Students each received a piece of clay to model and design based on the original warriors.

Day two started with the Gollan Asian Art Exhibit which is a travelling roadshow of Asian artefacts. We were able to wear Indonesian wedding clothes, dress as folk heroes and produce our own shadow puppet plays. After first break we headed back to the art studio where we worked with an Asian art expert to create sumi-e Japanese ink paintings.

We are looking forward to finishing the week with trips to the Australian institute of Sport, Parliament House, The Australian War Memorial and Questacon.
