                             End of Term 3

We've come to the end of another wonderful term in Year 5. Students have been working hard and enjoying a variety of tasks. We would like to say thank you to all students and thank you to all parents supporting your child's learning throughout this challenging time. Enjoy the holiday break and we are really looking forward to an exciting Term 4.

                                        Literacy

Throughout the last few weeks of term we have been continuing our book study on 'The Duck and the Darklings' and the wonderful literary devices throughout. We have completed a persuasive cold write on 'Should mobile phones be banned from school.' Students wrote some very convincing arguments on this particular topic. We have also been learning about a variety of different types of Poetry and students have thoroughly enjoyed creating these poems. VCOP focuses will continue in Term 4 so look out for Talk homework that students will bring home with them.

                                   Mathematics

We have been learning about different problem solving strategies, decimals, time and money and perimeter over the last few weeks of term. Students have been having great success with these topics.

                         Science: Material World

Last week we completed our Material World PBL. The unit culminated with the students having to create a sustainable playground for kids. We had some wonderful designs and ideas for playgrounds of the future that consider all of Earth's creation. Here are our Year 5's working on their designs.

                                         Religion

Over the last few weeks we have been studying Creation and all of the beautiful things that God has blessed us with on our planet.

                                     Geography

Our current PBL is a Geography topic called 'Factors that Shape Place'. We will be studying this topic in Week 1 and 2 of Term 4 as well.

                                             PE

Last Friday Years 5 and 6 went out and competed in some combined relays. The students had heaps of fun and participated really well for their House teams.

                                Technology

Over the school holidays we are asking all parents to monitor your child's social media habits and discuss appropriate use of online technologies.
