My Road Program

The Intermediate and Senior VCAL students on Friday the 9th of October were mentored by the MyRoad program organised by the Beacon Foundation. The mentors were a Career Coach, RACV Driver Trainer, Director of Back to Basics Consulting, RMIT Language Consultant and two final year Paramedic students from ACU.

The feedback received by the VCAL students was:

“Chelsea said positivity and persistence led to resilience.” Junjila (Year 11)

“We learnt about people's experiences and how careers can change.” Lea (Year 11)

“It showed me how to look at a career from a different perspective. They gave us a lot of resources to use to find out more about different careers.” Ella (Year 11)

“We were asked a lot of relevant questions.” Jessica (Year 11)

Matilda asked us questions that made us think about stuff we hadn’t thought about before.” Ebony (Year 11)

First Aid

We had an important session with a first aid trainer on Tuesday the 13th of October. Bernadette from Healthguard was very friendly and helpful, spending the time demonstrating the first aid procedures with epipens, CPR using dummies, interaction with a CPR machine and recovery position practice. She shared very crucial advice and examples of real life implying what to do as a first response. I will keep that in mind if I were to be involved in saving someone's life. I would know what to do thanks to this workshop for talking me through first aid. I could save a close family member or a friend's life.
