Teaching and Learning

 Did anyone say lunch?

Following a generous donation from Food-Share, we have some fantastic supplies for our future cooking classes and special lunches.

As we received some fresh produce, we are offering our students a free lunch tomorrow of wraps. Students can choose the ingredients they would like to place in their wrap (ham, tomato, lettuce, carrot, onion, tuna and cheese). If students are not wanting a wrap they can bring their lunch as per usual.

Rules Rule

Our students were busy last week putting their ICT skills to the test to create our Classroom/School Rules in poster format. The brief was it had to be A4, eye-catching and easily read from a short distance. The winning poster to be displayed on the classroom door for a year for all to see.

The winner of our poster competition was Clancy. His poster is below

Here are the other entries, as you can see it was a difficult task judging all of the fantastic entries.

Prep/One/Two News from Mrs Lightburn

It is great to see all the P-2 children back at school after the holidays and Covid isolations.

We have started to work on writing a recount about something they did during the holidays and we will hopefully get some in the newsletter next time.

In maths we are looking at how numbers are made and what each of the digits means. Everyone has been working really hard and we will have our first post-test on Thursday.

Spelling homework has started and every child was able to get all the words correct. GREAT EFFORT.

Well done and thank you to the helpers at home that supervise the spelling and sign the reading diary each night as it is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions about what is happening in the classroom feel free to give me a call at school.

Year Four/Five/Six News from Mr Collins

As part of our focus maths group sessions Mr Collins' group played a Melbourne Cup addition game. Last Wednesday , Piper was the best jockey, winning one game and coming a draw in another.

What an amazing return to teaching and learning it has been for the grade 4-6 students. Over the last 2 weeks we have planned, composed, and edited various recount texts that will be available to enjoy in our next newsletter. Our current maths topic is whole number, and the students have been examining place value, rounding, and partitioning numbers, with some even studying indices. The Tutor Learning Initiative continues to be a great asset to both classes. Having 4 experienced teachers along with Education Support allows all students to take part in guided reading sessions, focused small group maths tasks and structured writing classes, all with groups of only 2-4 children. I can't wait to see the progress our students make with such an exciting ensemble of opportunities provided to them.

Swimming 2022

Swimming and Water Safety Program:

We will begin our annual swimming lessons on Tuesday March 1st. Lessons will be each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for three weeks. (see Important Dates page).

Students in all year levels will participate. Travel is by bus to and from the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre in Eaglehawk. We will be leaving after lunch and back prior to our 3.20 dismissal.

Students require their bathers, a towel with goggles and swimcaps being optional.

Cluster Swimming Sports

Friday March 4th sees our Year 4/5/6 students participating in the swimming sports at the Rochester Pool. We have organised transport by car leaving the school once the bus arrives and returning again before 3.20pm. If you are intending on coming along to the sports and do not require transport for your child please let Hayden or Lisa know.

Permissions for this event (and the six swimming sessions) can be accessed via uEducateUs using the downloaded application- as explained in the package that was sent home with the last newsletter).

Outdoor Education

We have begun our whole school Outdoor Education Program. This program will run each fortnight of a Thursday morning (with MARC running on the alternate Thursday). Students will actively participate in sessions that aim to teach them about the natural environment, team challenges, initiative games with a gardening and cooking program added in.

We have been talking about team work and how if we work together we can achieve better results. Student had to try and work as a team to keep a water-filled balloon from popping. It is safe to say- we had some wet kids!

Afternoon's with Miss Coffey

Each Wednesday afternoon our students have a session with Miss Coffey. They have been talking about how to be kind to each other and how to "fill each others buckets" which is a metaphor for making others feel positive and happy because those around them are treating them with respect and kindness.

Below is a classroom display that students and staff have created.
