Year 7 Workshop

Student Reflections

On Thursday, 3rd of February I took part in the Green Hat Program.

The Green Hat Program helped me get a better understanding about how my classmates think and how they view things. I was able to do this by using dozens of planks to build a car. Me and a few of my fellow year 7’s had also started to build a city; I built a circular building with a domed roof, we also started to build the twin towers by using a two by two kind of technique, another couple of people participating in our city project were making a tower using a technique that reminded me of the card towers, balancing the smallest parts of two planks on the widest part of one plank.

Eventually we had to knock our twin towers down. Overall our experiences with the Green Hat Program were incredibly enjoyable and team building.

On our first week of High school, Green Hat came to our school to teach us about teamwork and creativity, we started off building anything we wanted that could stay balanced in groups of about 3-4, There was lots of unique designs and random builds. Next we tried making cars. Most people didn’t get to finish their cars. By the time it came to building any big structure we wanted, most groups combined to get even more blocks to build giant structures. Some groups made towers surrounding people, some groups made castles, houses and cars, although one group stood out, making a tower taller than everyone in the room, they needed to use chairs to make it any taller. Then came the packing up, all the groups were very disappointed because they had either nearly finished or wanted to make their builds even taller!
