TERCENTENARY LANTERN CEREMONY AND THE FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
On Tuesday we celebrated the Tercentenary of Hanora Nagle, affectionately known as ‘Nano’ Nagle marking 300 years since her birth in 1718 in Ballygriffin, County Cork, Ireland.
2018 marks a significant milestone in our history and across the world, Presentation Sisters, Friends of Nano, Presentation schools, hospitals and centres of ministry, are marking the Tercentenary Year of the Birth of Nano Nagle in creative, diverse and prophetic ways.
Nano founded the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ireland, today, known as the Presentation Sisters and whose feast day we celebrate on the 21st November. Nano was a pioneer of education in Ireland and was declared venerable by Pope Francis, in 2013, which means she is on her way to becoming a Saint.
Across Australia, we have marked the significance of Nano’s Tercentenary year, with a travelling procession of the specially inducted lantern, handmade to symbolise the presence of Nano’s light still aflame among us. Following a commissioning ceremony, the lantern journeyed around the Wagga Diocese Presentation Schools, and has finally made its way to us at Mater Dei. We were blessed with the presence of the Presentation Sisters to celebrate all the lantern symbolises in our contemporary world.
