Magis report

There has been an excellent response for Interschool Debating. Due to Covid teams will now debate remotely on the Tuesday evenings, all 12 interschool teams are now confirmed.  With six of these teams from Years 7, four of the Year 7 teams will debate on alternate weeks, having two or three debates for the season, whilst other teams all have five debates. Full information from WADL is expected soon, and an interschool debating handbook will be published once fixtures are finalised. Round one is scheduled for either 8 March or 15 March.

The prestigious Mock Trials competition commences soon, and Ms Farley has sent a letter home to parents of students involved.  All participants will need to show proof, as they enter the courts, that they are vaccinated. Any students not double vaccinated are not eligible to participate in Mock Trials. We look forward to another wonderful Mock Trials season. Another wonderful competition is the Science competition Sleek Geeks run by Dr Ylenia Casadio, and we look forward to some outstanding entries this year on the theme of ‘change.’

The first event in the Magis-run House Academic Challenge series begins this week with Years 7,8,9 and 10 competing on different days starting with Year 7 on Tuesday. Years 11 and 12 are next week. Each homeroom may have up to 10 competitors, five of whom compete during homeroom time in the GBLT, and five at recess in X15.  Good luck to all teams, and warmest thanks to House coordinators, Homeroom teachers and student leaders for organising the teams.

There has been a great response for the new Shakespeare Club with far more nominations than we are able to accept. Solutions are being examined and there will be a meeting at lunchtime this coming Friday.  Dungeons and Dragons and Drone clubs have also had splendid responses.
