Health and Physical Education

Year 9 students have started their critical unit in lifesaving. This unit aims to provide all students with a basic understanding of water conditions, dangers around the water and responsible actions when needed.  All students will learn skills in rescue techniques and first aid.

Thank you to all students in PE for your commitment to being organised with your uniforms and arriving promptly to class. We strongly encourage you to bring your face masks to class. Should you not be able to socially distance outdoors, you will be asked to wear your mask.

With our weather being extremely hot and the UV rating at high levels during our days, could we please recommend the following:

  1. Students arrive to school with sun protection (50+) already applied
  2. Students reapply throughout the day. Sunscreen is provided at all PE classes.
  3. Students bring their sun protective House Bucket Hat or College Cap.
  4. When swimming – it is compulsory for College Rashie to be worn and it is strongly advised to wear your hat in and outside of the pool.

A reminder that if you cannot participate in PE lessons, you need to provide a note from home and still get changed into your PE uniform to assist and participate where you can.

SPORT

Swimming Training

Thank you to all our keen students for taking part in our College swimming training sessions. A reminder that training is open to all students as the coaches are happy to work on fitness as well as competition preparation. We are very fortunate to have past students Timothy Gillman and Patrick Williams lead our morning swimming sessions this Term. Swimming training runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:00-8:00am.

Cross-Country Training

We had impressive numbers at our cross-country training sessions this week, especially given the humid conditions experienced. All cross-country training sessions are open to all students and run every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00-8:00am. There is an exciting new addition to our course this year that students will have the chance to familiarise themselves with in the Years 7-10 physical education classed later this Term.

AFLW – Mouthguards

This will be the second year for NAS AFLW and we are excited to see the numbers grow. For all girls interested in playing it is very strongly encouraged that all players wear a properly fitted mouth guard. This year we have teamed up with Rob Armanasco at GOB Smacked sports mouthguards who will offer 10% discount for John XXIII students by showing this article when purchasing their mouthguard.
