The UWA Fogarty Scholarships are the premier scholarships in WA. The Scholarship program has been established by The University of Western Australia in partnership with the Fogarty Foundation, to provide senior secondary students with an opportunity to undertake a cycle 1 undergraduate degree course and then a cycle 2 postgraduate degree by coursework at the University. The scholarship is intended for students who show significant academic potential, together with leadership ability and other outstanding achievements throughout Year 11 and 12.

Tuckwell Scholarship (Australian National University)

Tuckwell Scholarship for 2023

Australian National University (ANU) launched the Tuckwell Scholarship Program in 2013. The Tuckwell Scholarship Program at the ANU is the most transformational undergraduate scholarship program in Australia. A Tuckwell is not just about a students’ intellect. It is also about their desire and determination to use their natural abilities to realise their full potential so that they can make a difference in the world. All up one could say, this is no ordinary scholarship!

So, Tuckwell Scholar students will receive:

$22,350 per annum (2021 rate) (increasing with inflation) for each year of the length of their undergraduate degree, to cover on-campus residential costs, books, and general living expenses
priority access guaranteed to ANU-approved student accommodation
an annual allowance of up to $2,000 to assist with their move to Canberra and to support two annual return journeys (e.g., airfares) between their home and the University for each year of their degree. The allowance will be dependent on the proximity of their family home to ANU.
an allowance to help cover the transport costs for your parents to attend Commencement Weekend at the start of the program, and
an ANU Sports Centre membership for the length of their degree.

Scholarships are awarded based on four criteria:

academic potential and achievements to date;
other significant achievements to date, of any type;
demonstration of the Attributes of a Tuckwell Scholar; and
a desire to eventually give back to Australia.

Applying for a Tuckwell Scholarship is a three-stage process which commences with an initial application from yourself and a recommendation from a schoolteacher. Applications will begin in March 2022.

University Clinical Aptitude Test

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is an admissions test used by the UCAT ANZ Consortium of universities in Australia and New Zealand for their medical, dental, and clinical science degree programs. Universities requiring the UCAT are listed at this link - Universities requiring the UCAT. Students intending to apply for courses requiring the UCAT at any of these universities are reminded that they will need to book a test.

Bookings will open on 1 March 2022 and close 17 May 2022. The testing dates will be from 1 July 2022 to 12 August 2022.Students who are preparing for entry into any of these courses are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the format of the test at UCAT Test Format and the practice tests and preparation material provided at UCAT Preparation.

It is open day season! Attending university open days is an excellent opportunity to ask the experts all your questions about courses and campus life. It is also an unique chance to get a ‘feel’ for the campus and check how long it would take to commute to and from. Well worth the effort. Bring your friends, bring your family! Try to get to as many as possible to gain points of comparison.

You need to register online to attend most open days- see links below. If you are interested in studying interstate, there will be virtual open days that you can attend- visit the respective university websites for more information.

Medicine across Australia

Medicine is a highly competitive course at all universities across Australia. If students are serious about studying Medicine, they ought to consider making multiple applications to institutions across Australia. WHAT'S NEW

2021 State Priority Occupation List for VET

The Department of Training and Workforce Development identifies occupations where there are skills shortages and prioritises those courses for government course subsidies.

Based on 2021 skills shortages, the State Priority Occupation List informs the Department about what courses to expand and promote.

If you know the priorities, you can make choices that will save you money on course fees.

Some of the #1 Priorities include:

Crop farmers
Business systems analysts
Auto electricians
Steel and welding trades

OECD Career Readiness project

The OECD Career Readiness project makes use of quantitative evidence to investigate how teenage career-related activities and attitudes are associated with better adult employment outcomes. Review of multiple national longitudinal datasets confirms 11 indicators of better outcomes linked to the ways in which teenagers explore, experience, and think about their potential futures in work while in secondary education. The indictors are summarized in the following table. For more information click here.

Snapshot of The Australian National University (ANU) in 2022

Although the main campus is based in Canberra in the ACT, ANU is Australia's only national university. It has campuses in ACT, NSW, and the NT.

ANU ranks 1st in Australia and 27th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2022 and ANU counting six Nobel Laureates among its staff and alumni. It also has one of the highest average academic staff to student ratios among Australia's leading universities according to the Good Universities Guide.

Students wishing to study at ANU can choose from a range of disciplines and degree structures, from single, double and research undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
At ANU the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (MChD) is a postgraduate, four-year degree - students cannot study medicine as an undergraduate at ANU. Further information on the admissions process and how to apply is available on the ANU Medical School website.
Students looking for an undergraduate pathway to medicine without sitting the GAMSAT, might like to consider the Bachelor of Health Science.
ANU students are encouraged to enhance their learning experience and take advantage of national and international global study opportunities which can count credit towards their degree.
Prospective and current ANU student have access to many scholarships to support with the cost of their studies.
