From the Principal

The best of humanity

I caught up with a good friend last weekend. He is Principal of a school that has received plenty of publicity in the past few weeks as they have managed a challenging COVID situation. My mate was highly complimentary of his school community and the resilience they were showing.

One of my brothers is on the Board of Cricket Australia and it is fair to say that Board has received plenty of forthright feedback in the past fortnight as well. It was refreshing to hear the captain of the Australian cricket team recently speak so eloquently as a means of resolving difficulties.

On a far more serious note, I recall the words of a person assisting after the horrific Bali bombings 20 years ago:

‘I have seen the best of humanity and it is good’.

He was reflecting on the selfless actions of those assisting the injured and placing their own lives at risk.

The current pandemic has certainly created a wide variety of emotions and opinions. Invariably, we place ourselves in the hands of health officials to make the best possible decisions on the information available. Our politicians and government officials are tasked with making decisions which are sometimes unpopular, and they will occasionally make mistakes. Afterall, they are human.

There is a certain lull with College based activities at the current time. However, we remain confident we will be able to experience a comparatively normal school year but we will have to be flexible and adaptive. Those characteristics were evident with this week’s Year 12 Ball conducted in a manner reflective of current health measures. The students were wonderful on the night and it was an excellent evening of great celebration. Congratulations to all involved!
