Head of Middle Years

Mr Steven Tkaczuk

Students in our Middle Years need to be commended for the way they have risen to the challenge of upholding our College Values of Respect, Integrity, Grace and Courage in their everyday interactions. Student uniform standards are excellent, classroom behaviours appropriate and the overall feel very positive. The challenge now is to sustain this!

We understand that communication is very important, and we believe that this is healthy when we are all working collaboratively. There have been several notes about events sent to parents/guardians via Signmee. It is imperative that you set up your accounts correctly so that you can respond to letters and permissions for events. If you require any assistance with this, please contact our College office and staff will be able to assist you.

Middle Years Information Link

A Signmee note, with links, has been sent home to all Middle Years parents/guardians welcoming all families to the Middle Years. The links have several staff members taking you through  very important information relating to the way we operate in the Middle Years inclusive of our beliefs, academic standards, expectations of our Middle Years Programme and expectations as well as information relating to each particular year level. Please ensure that you take the time to view these links and if you would like additional information, please contact your child’s PC teacher.

Welcome Calls

By now you should have all received a phone call from your son’s or daughter’s Pastoral Care Teacher welcoming you to the school year. If you would like to make an additional appointment with them, or if you have not been able to speak with them yet, please contact them via SEQTA DM to organise a suitable time.

Year 6

On Wednesday, students in 6IM were working on square numbers and were very engaged as they represented formulas with Smarties and Skittles.  Apart from being mathematically challenging, there was lots of laughter and a buzz in the air.  Students have subsequently been asking "Have we got Maths?".

Year 7 Camp

Last week I had the privilege of sharing a wonderful experience with the Year 7 students and their teachers at the Year 7 Camp ‘The Summit’. Amid all of the uncertainties, we managed to set off on the adventure, eager to learn more about each other and complete challenges and activities never experienced by many before. Needless to say, students took this in their stride and enthusiastically worked in smaller groups supporting one another and encouraging each other to step outside of their comfort zones by ‘stretching and super-stretching’ themselves. The focus of the camp was to work within a team to complete a number of activities inclusive of a huge flying fox, abseiling down a very tall wall, orienteering, team building exercises, ‘mind-over matter’ activities, traversing up a climbing-wall, just to name a few.

One final activity was the obstacle ‘team’ challenge that had students climbing on and under nets through mud and water, jumping into ball pits, completing small team challenges, swerving through swinging balls, just to name a few. To top it all off, they had to move from one activity to the next carrying a car tyre and linking arms! This really did highlight the importance of supporting one another, whilst passionately encouraging each other. As you would expect, this was a very enjoyable experience for the students!
