Year 1/2 Report
Term 1 2022
Welcome to Grade 1/2! We are very excited to start the new year and have a lot of fun and exciting learning experiences planned for students. The students have settled well into their routines through our start up program. Students have been learning about the routines in the classroom and how we can create a fun and safe classroom through showing the school values.
In Literacy this Term, Grade 1/2 students will focus on diary and journal entries. Students will be looking at a variety of diary/journal entries and will be learning about the purpose of these types of texts. They will learn to identify the structure and components of a diary or journal entry and will begin writing their own. Students will learn to record important key events in sequence whilst thinking about the 5Ws (Who, When, Where, What, Why).
The students will also continue to develop their letter sound knowledge and vocabulary through our word study program. They will be involved in exciting language experiences to expand their vocabulary and continue to practice their high frequency words.
In Numeracy this term, the grade 1/2 students will focus on counting and place value. Students will be given opportunities to use concrete materials to show their thinking. They will be working on counting fluently forwards and backwards and using skip counting to identify patterns in numbers. Students will play numeracy games, use hands on manipulatives and ICT to engage them in their learning and explore numeracy concepts.
They will also be learning about the days of the week and months of the year through exploring the calendar daily. Students are given opportunities to identify and count down the days until special events at school and make real connections to their life.
In Inquiry this term, the grade 1/2 students will be exploring the topic “Making Healthy Food Choices and Being Safe in our Community.” Through our Social Emotional Learning, students will explore how emotional responses impact on others’ feelings. They will begin to make decisions on how to keep themselves and others healthy, safe and physically active.
