Year 4 Report

Term 1, 2022

We are all looking forward to a wonderful year of learning ahead.

In Term 1, students will be working on building a community of readers and writers.

Reading

In Reading, students will learn how to use strategies which build proficient readers. They will further develop their understanding of independent reading processes and procedures. Students will explore ways to respond to reading, their reading preferences, and will have opportunities to discuss texts in depth.

Writing

In Writing, students will be exploring poetry, where they will study a variety of mentor texts. They will identify the text structure and language features of poetry, and use this knowledge to create their own poems. Students will work through the writing stages in order to publish their work and share with an audience.

Inquiry

Year 4 students will be exploring an inquiry unit called Being Resilient And Making Good Choices. Students will develop the skills to identify and compare ways of maintaining respectful relationships with peers and families. They will also develop the skills required to work collaboratively in teams and explore effective ways of solving problems. They will investigate the importance of resilience and positive self talk to maintain an optimistic outlook on different situations.

Maths

In Maths, students will be developing their counting and place value skills. Our Maths lessons aim to engage the students learning of concepts and skills through games, hands on activities and technology. There are opportunities for students to participate in whole group and partner work, as well as focused small groups. Students will be using a variety of problem solving skills to identify and continue number patterns. Students will also model, expand, compare and rename numbers.
