Term 1, 2022
Welcome to 2022! All Grade 3 students have had a fantastic start to the term. They have been working extremely hard in our 'Start Up' program. Teachers and students are ready for a fabulous term of teaching and learning.
Literacy
During Term 1, the reading and writing program will be linked therefore the Grade 3 students will be examining the structure and features of persuasive texts. The students will explore aspects of the writer’s craft, features of language that supports meaning in the texts they are reading and implement what they have learnt in their own writing. The Grade 3 students will be given the opportunity to identify different point of views by studying mentor texts such as:
The Grade 3 students will also be exploring various reading strategies such as: monitoring and self-correcting, working out tricky and unfamiliar words in order to help with fluency and accuracy while reading. In Writing the Grade 3 students will put into practise the different aspects of the author’s craft that will allow them to think about their audience, using the correct structure and the different elements of persuasion. The students will work through the different stages of writing; prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
Throughout the Term, the students will have opportunities to conference and develop reading and writing goals with their teacher, in order to improve their learning in these areas.
Maths
This Term in Maths, students will be focusing on counting. We will practice skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, forwards and backwards from zero. We will also work on identifying different number patterns and use these patterns to help us skip count from different starting points. We will learn to identify properties of different numbers, such as odd and even, then move onto place value later in the term. Throughout the term the students will have their Maths goals which will help guide their learning.
Inquiry
This Term the Grade 3 students will be exploring rules and laws associated with local governance. They will be looking at and understanding the difference between ‘rules and ‘laws.’ The students will explore who makes rules, why rules are important and the consequences if rules aren’t followed. They will engage in democratic processes and identify their rights and responsibilities.
