“Be the best version of you”

Western Heights College's first assembly for 2022 was a chance to welcome back a special guest from our alumni (past students). We invited Jasmine Whatley back to school to recognise her outstanding achievement as 2021 Dux.

Jasmine studied History, English, Maths Methods and Biology last year, and Further Maths in 2020. Not only did Jas achieve fantastic academic results, but she also represented Victoria in the National U20 Basketball Championships, was a School Sport Victoria Sporting Blue recipient, was picked in the initial Australian U20 Gems squad for the World Championships, represented the Geelong Supercats in the NBL1 and worked part-time at Coles.

Speaking at assembly, Jas encouraged students to aim high, work hard and have some fun along the way – and not to be afraid to ask teachers for help.  “Your teachers are here to help you learn and grow. So believe in yourself and have the courage to find your own path. Don’t be afraid to make changes along the way,” she said.

Jas receives a plaque and a new laptop for her accomplishments as Dux. We wish her all the best as she begins her arts degree at the University of Melbourne, and we look forward to staying in touch with Jas and the Class of 2021 through the alumni program in the years to come.
