School is Back and Running!

by Helen Freeman, Principal

Well, we have had an exciting week at SSPS with our super Year 2 students enjoying their first excursion since starting school in 2020 (due to Covid 19 restrictions). They were all so very excited as were the staff and parents as they boarded the bus on Tuesday morning to travel down to the Mornington Peninsula to visit McCrae Homestead as part of their History studies. From all accounts, it was a hugely successful day.

Pupil Free Day

Just a reminder that Monday 28th February is a Curriculum Day, students are not required to attend school.  If you need care for your child you can register and book them into TeamKids.  Teachers will be continuing to work with Andrea Hillbrick focusing on student writing across the school.

Parent Information Night Trial

Staff are currently working on delivering Parent Information Nights for all year levels which will be held live at the school in the BER. These presentations are being held in response to feedback received that our parents would like to have more information on the curriculum being covered, and assessments and how they are utilised to inform their teaching.

Tomorrow all families will receive a Google Form to complete.  Please use the form to tell your child's teacher any vital information so they can learn more about them and your goals for your child this year.

Capital Works Update

The scope of works is currently with the architects, checking the tender documents. These documents will then be forwarded to the Quality Surveyor by the end of the week, where a final check on pricing will be completed ready to go out to tender.

Special Presentation Assembly

On Monday 7th March, Matt Fregon MP our local member will be at the assembly to present our Leadership badges to our Year 6  recipients and the special Library Bags to our Foundation students. Parents are very welcome to attend this outdoor assembly at school.

EAL (English as a Second Language)

We have been extremely fortunate to have Deborah Menner join our staff for Term 1. Deb is a teacher from the Blackburn English Language School. Over the past two years, BELS due to the COVID restrictions on overseas travel has been closed and the teachers have been allocated to schools around the region. Deb is working with small groups and in some cases giving one on one support to some of our EAL students. Deb is also working with the teachers to upskill them with strategies to support their EAL students in their classrooms.

Charlie Kenez Retirement

Charlie officially retired on the 17th February. You are all invited to attend a retirement function at school on Thursday 3rd March from 5.00 to 7.00 pm. Kelly Sports have been engaged to run some sports activities for the students to enjoy. We will be making a presentation to Charlie on behalf of the Syndal South Primary School Community.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Cohen in Year 5 for qualifying for the Monash/Waverley Divisional Swimming Meet on Tuesday and wish him all the very best from all of us.
