Inaugural Wurun Senior Campus Careers Expo

Students in years 10, 11 and 12 attended the inaugural Wurun Senior Campus Careers Exp on Wednesday 1 June. Featuring exhibitors from the university, TAFE and apprenticeship sectors, the expo allowed students to mingle with industry representatives and ask questions about courses, pathways and opportunities. The wet weather didn’t dampen student or exhibitor enthusiasm!

All of the exhibitors acknowledged the excellent behaviour of our students and commented that students showed a great level of interest and were asking well-informed questions.

We thank our industry reps for supporting our students at this event: RMIT, La Trobe University, STREATS, Box HIll Institute, MEGT and MAS National, JMC Academy, ACU, Swinburne, Deakin University, INLLEN, City of Yarra, ACU, Victoria University, Torrens University and the Carlton College of Sport.

Thank you to year 12 student Laszlo Locsei for leading the Acknowledgement to Country at the start of each session.

Inaugural National Careers Week celebration

We celebrated National Careers Week as a College for the first time this year. From 16-22 May, students engaged in classroom discussions about the careers they see day to day in the community.

All students were invited to participate in a Treasure Hunt activity to find specially marked Careers Bullseyes posters. Careers bullseyes can help students connect school experiences to the world of work and relevant careers and jobs.  The 33 careers bullseyes are available online, go to: https://myfuture.edu.au/bullseyes

A great day was had at the TradesFit event.  The Victorian government hosted an expo to showcase opportunities for women in trades. You can read a more detailed account in the year 10 update.  Due to a high level of student and community engagement and excitement we are looking forward to National Careers Week 2023 from 15-21 May.

Congratulations to our Senior Campus competition winner, Hugo Alves-Perini. Prep-10 Campus winners to be announced soon!

Year 8

We welcomed the Smith Family into school to deliver  a ‘Future Seekers’ program with two year 8 classes. Future Seekers aims to help students learn more about the world of work.

Year 9

Year 9 students commenced one to one interviews with an external careers consultant to unpack their Morrisby profile as part of the Career Insights program. More interviews will take place on Wednesdays in June.

Parents and carers will be advised of interview times and are welcome to attend.  After the interview, students will have access to their online profile and are encouraged to share this information with parents, carers or other mentors.  Morrisby profiles are accessible for students as they progress through senior secondary and can help with career decision making including subject selection and pathways.  For more information about the Career Insights program, go to: https://ceav.vic.edu.au/my-career-insights/resources-for-parents-families/

Dates are in place for Year 9s to participate in the Real Industry Job Interview (RIJI) program where students will apply and interview for mock jobs to gain exposure to the process of job interviewing and application. Interviews will take place at Collingwood Town Hall in October.

Year 10

Securing a work experience placement remains a main priority for year 10s with work experience scheduled to take place from 1-12 August.

We’re seeking help from our community to source work experience placement opportunities for our year 10 students this year.  Does your workplace host work experience students? Any opportunity will be welcome, but specifics include healthcare, engineering, any trade, creative and media industries. Drop us an email if you are able to help out (rhonda.cadman@education.vic.gov.au).

Collingwood College has an excellent partnership with Rotary Club of Richmond, and through their Next Step program, a small group of year 10 students will participate in a career mentoring program over coming months. We thank the Rotary Club of Richmond for this opportunity.

Year 11/12

Our senior students are actively participating in their Learner Profile activities and workshops aiming to equip them with skills required for their future.  Workshops include writing, barista training, sport coaching, sound and music, and a maths extension opportunity.

The Wurun Careers Team has upgraded the appointment booking system and it should be much easier for students to see available appointment times. To make an appointment, go to :https://wuruncareers.com/for-students/appointment-booking

Our sixth Wurun Senior Campus Careers newsletter was issued and is available online for all students to access: https://wuruncareers.com/important-information/school-newsletters.
