Principal's Report
Dear Collingwood College,
I’m confident to say that the degree of anxiety associated with NAPLAN has been lower this year. Perhaps this has something to do with us conducting NAPLAN online for the first time? I have admiration and respect for the way all our students (and teachers) have conducted themselves during the testing period. I could see our students demonstrate resilience by persisting when things got hard, allowing themselves to be vulnerable, whilst also finding moments of joy throughout the day to keep smiling and feeling positive.
A reminder, though, NAPLAN is just a snapshot of each child’s performance on one day. It doesn’t tell us about the incredible achievements each child has made thus far. The data ignores the challenges some children have to overcome just to get to school each day or the incredibly positive attitude a student brings to their learning, even when they don’t reach the so called ‘benchmark’.
COVID-19
Our RAT testing and distribution program continues. Parents from the community have been in touch when faced with a positive result, and therefore, I have provided accurate and timely information in my daily email updates.
Staffing is becoming increasingly difficult as more and more staff test positive for COVID. This remains a problem statewide. We are doing our best to ensure not only do we provide appropriate cover, but lessons covered still maintain quality content and instruction.
Staffing
We continue to have movement in this space. Judith Clelland, Secondary Assistant Principal, remains on leave. We welcome Margaret Doucas back from her period of leave. A big thanks to Sormeh Afkari for acting as Primary Assistant Principal for this time.
Key information:
- Angela Watters is Acting Assistant Principal – Secondary School
- Rachel Wood is Acting Education and Programs Leader – Year 7&8
- Welcome to Rainer Botes who is supporting in Maths and MYLNS. Another big welcome to Sarah Adams, who has been with us for the term and will be taking over some of Liria’s classes as she starts her leave
Leadership is working on a revised Semester 2 timetable. We are pleased to announce that our English Language Centre will open its doors again in Term 3. We have (Visa depending) 11-14 international enrolments for the program, which will need to be staffed appropriately.
