State Swimming

Elic Fusher came 2nd in State Final this afternoon, and Sophia came 10th!

It was a great day in the pool for the Brighton kids!

State Lawn Bowls

Fred Shaw, Emanuel Pothitos and Stuart Clarkson travelled to Sunbury to compete in the Junior Division of the State Lawn Bowls Championships on Thursday May 5th. The boys performed extremely well missing out on a spot in the semi finals by a single shot. Many of their opponents compete in club competitions so it was a fabulous learning experience for all. A huge thankyou to the parents of the boys who transported them to and from the venue and provided great support. As the coach I was very proud of the boys sportsmanship and determined effort.

Brighton slays at soccer! Kingston Division Champs.

Our Intermediate soccer team is through to the Southern Metro Regionals for the second year running. Last year’s were cancelled so this round robin had added importance.

What an amazing team!

Game 1. Brighton 4 Sandringham 0. Sandy had some strong players but had to defend for the whole match due to the relentless pressure our players created.

Game 2. Brighton 2 Beaumaris 0. It was a very physical game but we were ready for it and didn’t shy away from any of the challenges.

Game 3. Brighton 7 McKinnon 0. This was a good opportunity for us to work on our shape in preparation for the next level of competition.

Takara - captain - worked hard all day and turned defence into attack constantly.

Phoebe - nursing a groin injury she kept goal and was fantastic.

Emma - played brilliantly all day, scored goals and set up scoring for teammates.

Isabella - so strong and so skilful - had a great day and was always a threat.

Ursula - absolutely brilliant passing and a vital player at left wing - I stole her from Netball

Megan - amazing skills  and read the game so well - superb all round gifted athlete

Ava - she chased down everything and her passing was first class. A great team player.

Molly - absolutely rock solid skills and speed - another natural player who read the game well

Millie - a last minute signing from Netball and slotted in perfectly. Great skills and if she was any tougher, she’d rust. Shrugged off tackles with a grin.

Olivia - natural soccer skills and made crucial plays all day - gutsy and determined and played a great supporting role.

Juliette - was really strong, determined and fearless. Her passing skills were really good.

Cerys - our warmup expert and has improved so much. Entertaining. Should have her own radio show.

Madi - I had forgotten how good she is. Lightning fast and her ball skills were great. Could talk more.

Poppy - what a great team player. Was happy to do whatever the team needed to achieve a good result.

Rory - had a huge day. Fancy footwork, great energy and determination. Just when their defenders relaxed Rory appeared!

It was great how the two year levels worked together and enjoyed the camaraderie and celebrated each others’ successes. We hope to work on all aspects of our game in preparation for the Regional finals later this year.

Coach Varney

Intermediate Footy

Brighton defeated all teams (McKinnon, Sandy, Bentleigh and Beaumaris) to win the competition!

The boys played extremely well, showed grit and determination as well as some excellent skills and teamwork.

A thoroughly well deserved win.

A big thank you to my student teachers, Tom, Declan, Matt and Jemma who all coached (they are all players or coaches, Jemma plays AFLW for the Doggies)!
