Year 4-6 News

To conclude our Integrated Studies Unit on Living Things- Animals, the students had the opportunity to bring all of their learning together and demonstrate their understanding of concepts such as animal classification, food webs, animal adaptations and conservation by researching an endangered animal of their choice. Below are the students and their completed research projects.

News from Ms Coffey

Over the last 6 weeks, the Grade 4’s have been working with Miss Coffey and Mez to hone their skills with telling the time. We have focussed upon mastering o’clock, half (1/2) past, quarter (1/4) past, quarter (1/4)  to and five minute intervals on the ‘past’ side. For example, 2.10 is the same as 10 minutes past 2, or 5.25 is the same as saying 25 minutes past 5. Any continued work you could do at home to support this would be greatly appreciated. As we know, learning to tell the time is such an important part of our adult lives, and can be quite challenging to ‘get your head around’.

Thanks

Winter Sports Day

Yesterday our students in Years 4-6 attended the Winter Sports Day at Colbinabbin. They were able to participate in one of the three sports on offer; netball, soccer or football and joined students from other small schools in our district.  Students braved the cold weather and had a most enjoyable day. Thanks to Mr Collins for driving and taking the footy and to Miss Coffey and Mez for their supervision and help with the other sports.

Kelly Sports

Our students have continued to enjoy the sessions held each Friday. Last week the sports focus was Hockey.  Rumour has it that Isabell could be a future Matilda!

AFL Clinic

On Monday all of our students participated in a football clinic ran by Harvey Gallagher, who is the captain of the Bendigo Pioneers. Students enjoyed some skills sessions focussing on handballing, kicking and scoring goals.

Music Lessons

This week we began a series of music sessions that have been facilitated by our mentor Rosie Savage who works for The Songroom. Rosie will come in weekly for ten weeks and support us to take music lessons with our students that are engaging, aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and provide our students with new knowledge related to musical terms and concepts. We have been very fortunate to secure a grant to run this program; this grant also sees us able to purchase a range of new music equipment for our students to use. We are looking forward to our future sessions.
