Exploring the world with Humanities

By Ms Sherlock - Humanities - Leader of Learning

Students have been able to participate in a number of excursions to enhance their Humanities studies.

Year 12 Sociology students visited the Bunjilaka Centre at Melbourne Museum to learn about First Nations histories and cultures:

“We got to learn about the history and contemporary experiences of Victorian Indigenous cultures. My favourite part was the art installation and light show that told the story of Bunjil the Creator” Abigail.

“I found it interesting to read about the laws that were put in place to discriminate against Indigenous people”. Tara

“I enjoyed seeing a different perspective from what we learn in class and see in society. Everything was visual and informative. I’ve since taken friends to see it and taught them what I’ve learnt”. Valbona

“It was a phenomenal experience to be able to learn about our country’s past history and have the ability to see, touch and hear information about Indigenous culture. This gave us an opportunity to learn and grow and reflect on society”. Amira

Year 11 Geography students headed to the Dandenongs to learn about the impact of and response to bushfires:

“The ranger talk was pretty cool. We learnt about the different areas and where it was burnt in 1997. Overall, it was a fun day”. Chloe

“It was really interesting to go to all the sites and see the effects of bushfires. The view from Burke’s Lookout was beautiful”. Sarah

Year 12 Business Management students went behind the scenes of the Yakult factory to learn about the production process:

“We learnt about the history of Yakult and how the company started. We saw inside the laboratory and learnt about input processes and outputs that are involved in making Yakult”. Thaleisha

“We learnt that because of technology, the factory can produce up to 400,000 bottles of Yakult in one day.” Zorce

Year 10 Geography students braved the icy wind at Frankston beach to explore changing coastal environments:

“We watched a crane take away the soil to create space for boats and saw how the waves had eroded the wood under the pier. When we compared the area to an old photo we saw how much the area had changed. It was great to go on an excursion and see it real life because we explored new things ‘live’”. Prabhjot
