VCAL Amazing Race and City CBD sites.

11Y and 12Y VCAL Personal Development students recently spent a day in the Melbourne CBD participating in an “AMAZING RACE” and Mapping task. The students were required to navigate their way around the CBD by walking or utilising the free tram zone to find sites outlined on the clue sheet.

The race required students to collaborate with group members and problem solve to outline the quickest and most time efficient route to get to each landmark. This was an opportunity for students to implement their leadership skills which has been a major focus in class to date.

Students were also required to take photographs throughout the race which will be used for a photo diary as part of an assessment.

A wonderful day was had by all students and staff.

A big thank you to the students for upholding the school values whilst out in the community.

Thank you to Edna Cruz and Mel Georgopoulos for supporting us on this VCAL excursion.

THE AMAZING RACE IN THE CITY

FROM Kaitlyn Stavrevski 12Y

On the 9th of May 2022 year 11/12 Personal Development VCAL students went to the city for an Amazing Race/ City Experience. We arrived at Epping station at 8:45 and we got off at Flinders Street Station at 10 am. We gathered at Federation Square to collect our questions with clues. We went to the first location and worked through the race from there. As we completed the Amazing Race we had check in places. We met Ms Gray at the State Library at 11:50 for a roll call. We then went to Melbourne Central for lunch and a walk around. We moved off to do another afternoon activity on mapping major sites in the CBD. We met Ms Gray at Flinders Street Station to return to Epping Station.

My experience of the Amazing Race/City Experience was amazing, I enjoyed every part of the day as I got to be with people I worked well with and my friends and I got to demonstrate my leadership skills and independence.

STUDENT REFLECTION - Ahmed Alghazal 12Y

The VCAL Amazing Race and Melbourne CBD City Experience. Is an excursion that aims to help students understand the significance of historical city sites in the CBD. Students were tasked to work in groups and complete learning activities that involved answering trivia questions to get a better understanding of each city site. There was also the creation of a photographic diary as a way to record our experience of the CBD.  The album included a collection of photos from the amazing race and at least 10 photos of other interesting CBD sites we saw on the day. I personally found the experience to be very informative and eye opening, as we were able to discuss, explore and uncover the historical culture and significance of each site.
