COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN LEARNING

On May 5 I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend our Year 11 camp at Lake Dewar Lodge, Myrniong. It was inspiring to see students across Year 11 working together through problem-solving activities, making new friends, building positive relationships with staff, and simply having fun. The venue had excellent facilities, including a very challenging tunnelling activity – one of only three in Australia, and it was so good to see students again have the opportunity to participate in activities outside of the school’s boundaries.

This past week has also provided some positive examples of engagement from a number of perspectives of the community that is Epping Secondary College:

  • EDUCATION STAFF DAY

On Monday we came together as a whole-school team to acknowledge and celebrate Education Support (ES) Staff Day. Our ES staffs’ dedication to what’s best for our students is greatly appreciated, and we thank everyone who brought something along to share on the day. It was great to see so many people come together in the staffroom and enjoy each other’s company.

  • PARENT FOCUS GROUPS – SCHOOL VISION

This week also saw the school working together with parents and carers as they provided in-depth, honest and insightful feedback that will contribute to our new school vision. This was a great opportunity to positively interact with parents and carers, as we continue to build relationships with our school community. We had a variety of parents attend, representing different year levels and years of interaction with the school. Thank you to those who participated – your time and input is greatly appreciated.

  • MULTICULTURAL DAY

This year Multicultural Day will be held on Thursday July 14 (Week One, Term Three), with a number of activities planned including year level assemblies, student guest speakers, recess and lunchtime music and dancing and a variety of food for sale at lunchtime. Media teacher John McKay will be putting together a short video celebrating the multiculturalism that is Epping Secondary College, and inviting students and staff to share an insight into theirs and/or their family’s stories, and the positivity they feel and experience at our multicultural school. We look forward to sharing this with our school community. Further information about this day will be sent out in coming weeks.

Enjoy your weekend.
