Celebrating Success

Congratulations to the students who qualified to compete at the recent Western Metropolitan Primary School Region Finals and represented QoP.

Ellum D (6C) came first in both her events, the 100m and 200m Multiclass.  Amazing!  Look at her huge smile below.

A big congratulations also to our other participants below for putting in an incredible effort:

Vivienne P (6B)

Kristine T (6B)

Gianluca B (5C)

Elijah T (6A)

Curtis F (6A)

Podcasting Projects

Year 5 children had been working very hard last term creating imaginative texts using 'podcasting' as a mode.  They have worked in groups to plan, write and create podcasts for the school community. The projects have been massive and the products are awesome. Please take some time to view and enjoy what your children have been able to produce last term.

P&F Colour Explosion Wrap Up

After two years of postponements, we finally held our Colour Explosion event. What extraordinary timing that we managed to complete this and pack up a sheer 15mins prior to the storm hitting Altona Meadows.

What an amazing night had by all, the community spirit was in abundance, made evidently clear by the huge crowd, laughter and cheers all night long.

A huge thank you and congratulations to the team coordinating the night, Natalie Calleja, Anna Cini, Bec Pravednikov, Fay Forde and Meagan Johnson.

Of course, these kinds of events can’t be run without an army of QOP parent volunteers, so a massive thank you to everyone who put their hand up to help, there were numerous parents who were assisting for one session, and jumped in last minute to help from set up to pack up, and just did whatever needed to be done. Very special mention to Chris Inglis for his superb MC effort for the night.

Special thanks to those local businesses that supported our BBQ and event;

  • Napoli’s Fruit and Vegetable Market– Williamstown
  • Nicks Bakery – Somers Parade, Altona
  • A & L Gugliotta and Sons Butchers – Altona North
  • Haley Hire – Laverton (generator for race banner)

Also Kristy from Rise and Grind Mobile Coffee and Peter Giunta the Ice cream Man for attending our event.

The final fundraising tally is yet to be confirmed, however we do know that we achieved our initial target set, what an achievement to our students and their families. All funds will go towards student resources at Queen of Peace.

Fundraising prizes will be distributed upon receipt, and we hope all students relish in the memories created at this event.

Thank you once again to everyone who volunteered, fund-raised and cheered the students on!

P&F Fete

We are wanting to start the ball rolling by notifying everyone of the QoP Fete which will be held at the end of 2023.

Even though the fete is over a year away, preparations are needed to start now

to ensure a successful and enjoyable event.

The fete committee is starting to be formed, and we are looking for volunteers to

join the committee (which is separate to the P&F Committee). Volunteers for

this include organising rides, food stalls, sideshow games, other types of stalls

such as cake and plant stalls, and entertainment.

To make this event we are also looking at sponsorship opportunities for all

types of business, big or small.

The most important contribution we need from the school community for the fete

is your volunteered time, both in the lead up to and on the day to assist with

stalls.  The fete will only be a success if we get the volunteer numbers to assist

the committee.

Right now we need your help now in the following ways:

- To put your hand up, and be a part of the committee

- Do you or someone you know work in the amusement ride industry?

Can you/they help our school in the way of sponsorship or by providing rides?

- Do you have a contact in the animal nursery or pony ride industry?

- Do you or someone you know work in the party hire industry?

Can you/they help our school in the way of sponsorship or by providing

Equipment, such as a fairy floss machine, slushy machine, popcorn

machine, audio systems etc.

- We will need lots of marquees – if your family has any that we could use

on the day, please let us know

- Any businesses locally that would like to sponsor and be involved

If anyone has contacts in the above areas or would like to be on the committee,

could they kindly contact the fete committee on

fete@qopaltonameadows.catholic.edu.au by the end of November.

We hope this fete will be a great day for our school community. Watch out for

future notes for more ways you can help the Queen of Peace 2023 fete be a

HUGE success!!

Many thanks,

The QoP Fete Committee

P&F Commitee

On Monday night we held P&F AGM and general meeting. Thank you to those who were able to join us on the night.

I would like to express my gratitude to our 2022 P&F Committee for volunteering to take on a role this year.  It was such a busy Post-Covid Lockdown year and boy did we work hard to make it count!  It has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside such a wonderful team of people willing to put their hand up to take on a role:

Melissa Bartolo (Vice President)

Meagan Johnson (Treasurer)

Sandra Inglis (Secretary)

Jessie Nassar (Fundraising Coordinator)

Natalie Calleja (Social Coordinator)

Justin Magro (Gardens & Maintenance Coordinator)

As part of the AGM, a new committee was nominated for 2023. What an awesome team that have volunteered and they already have such fantastic ideas and I feel I am leaving QoP in very capable hands!   I am pleased to announce the new P&F committee:

Melissa Bartolo (President)

Anna Cini (Vice President)

Meagan Johnson (Treasurer)

Sandra Inglis (Secretary)

Bec Pravednikov (Fundraising Coordinator)

Chris Inglis (Social & Pastoral Coordinator)

Thanks so much for volunteering and I hope you all enjoy your roles as much as I did.

P&F President

Ride2School Poster Competition

Hope you are all creating your poster promoting fun ways to walk, ride, skate or scoot to school!

Entries must be completed on the attached template and returned to school by Monday 28 November.

Template below :-

Vincent Van Gogh Collaboration

Year 2 children completed a complicated Vincent Van Gogh collaboration at the end of Term 3. Each child was given a template of a small section of the original painting to colour using oil pastels. They were then required to work with the children whose pictures were next to theirs, to make sure they chose the right colours and direction line. I think they did an amazing job and they worked so well together.  - Cherie Bitar, Art Teacher

Time to Wear School Hats

Queen of Peace is a SunSmart school and all children and staff are required to wear school hats when outside in terms one and four. Sunglasses are optional. Our aim is to protect children and staff from exposure to too much UV and help minimise future skin cancer risk.

The Uniform Shop sells bucket hats and legionnaire-style caps and now is the time to get prepared!  Purchase via Quickcliq, (orders are then filled on a Thursday).  Please ensure hats are clearly labelled, preferably with child's surname. More information on the school's uniform policy can be found on the QoP website.

Reminder from the Office

If children are to be picked up before the end of school (for medical or dental appointments etc) parents should advise the teacher via Seesaw. When picking up children on such occasions, parents should report to the office and sign their child out on the iPad and the child will be called to the office. **To avoid disruption to classrooms please note that if children need to be collected early they should be picked up at the end of a learning session i.e. 10:50am or 1:40pm. This is so that lessons are not interrupted and children can be easily located in their classrooms. If you come to pick up your child during recess or lunch play, it can be difficult to track them down quickly** It is the school’s preference that all appointments are made after school hours or during school holidays where possible.

Don't Forget...

Parents, you are able to view the school's google Community Calendar of events. Please ensure you check in regularly to keep up to date with school happenings. Refer to the final section of this newsletter 'Calendar & Events' for further information and the link. The QoP Community Calendar can also be accessed via the school website.
