Junior School
Years 7 to 9
This week our Year 7s have enjoyed an array of activities on offer designed to encourage and build teamwork and resilience at the year level camp at Roses Gap. We've no doubt this has been a fantastic experience for all involved and a positive way to 'book end' a full year of onsite learning and development.
Next week is an exciting week as all Yr 7-9 students will Step Up into their 2023 classes on Monday. It is an opportunity for students to meet their new classmates, Year Level Coordinator and teachers, and begin the content of their new subjects. Teachers will set Starting Block Tasks (coursework) and Holiday Homework to assist with 2023 planning and preparation for the new academic year. All Year Levels will start with an assembly on Monday.
Our Year 8s have received their subject allocations for 2023 - their first experience of elective selection. We are doing our best to accommodate everyone's individual preferences as far as possible. Students will have their subjects finalised in advance of the Step Up program so they can experience the classes before the New Year commences.
With the commencement of the Step Up program, we prepare to see our current Year 9 students move from the Junior into the Senior sub school as they commence their Year 10 studies. We wish them well with this transition.
This also means we are preparing for our new intake of students into the Junior School, that being our 2023 Year 7s. It is a busy time for the transition process and we eagerly await the state-wide Orientation Say on 13th December where we get to have all our new Year 7s from the the various primary schools at the College for a jam-packed day experiencing secondary school.
Our annual colour run will take place Friday 9th December (Period 4)
Students are to bring a change of clothing and a towel
Students can choose to walk or run the course
Food/ice-cream van will be onsite for students to purchase from during lunch-time
All measures have been taken to ensure that this event is as safe and enjoyable as possible for all students. Staff will do their best to throw the powder at the torso; however, wind and other factors can cause the powder to come in contact with the face. You may wish for your child to bring their own eye protection such as sunglasses or goggles. The colour powder is considered safe for use. However, students with respiratory issues, such as asthma, are advised to be careful in their decision to participate.
The colour powder used in the event is non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly consisting of 98% corn starch and 2% food colouring. According to manufacturer’s recommendations, it will likely wash out of your child’s clothing, however we recommend that your child brings a change of clothing and wears a plain white shirt that you do not mind being coloured. After all, that is what the event is all about! If in the unlikely event that the product causes skin irritation it is recommended that it be washed off with water. Out of consideration to our bus drivers, we do ask that all bus travellers bring a towel for the bus ride home and use this to minimize transfer of the colour powder to the seats.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school. Please notify your child’s Year Level Leader if you do not wish your child to participate in this event.
