Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

NEW NEWS - Flood Support from St. Catherine’s School, Moorabin.

The floods certainly have brought out the empathy, compassion and social justice of others in both our local and state communities!

I received an email from a teacher at St. Catherine’s in Moorabbin in Melbourne, who went to ACU (Australian Catholic University) with me in Ballarat many, many years ago!! This teacher had been talking to the school’s “Student Voice Team” (similar to a Student School Council) and the students were concerned about the floods in Northern Victoria and wanted to know how they could assist another school! The teacher reached out to ask how their students could assist us during this challenging time! We will be in contact with this school in the near future to organise a connection between the two schools and accept their offer of assistance! A school truly living out their motto!!

NEWS REMINDER - October - Month of the Rosary.

Catholics traditionally observe October as the month of the Holy Rosary, with the Feast of the Holy Rosary being celebrated on October 7th.

The Rosary is a series of prayers including the Apostle’s Creed, the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be.

There are four mysteries of the Rosary, which are traditionally prayed on particular days of the week.

The Mysteries of the Rosary are meditations on the life and death of Jesus and Mary, from the Annunciation to the Ascension. These include the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, the Glorious Mysteries and the Luminous Mysteries.

NEWS REMINDER - A Call for Altar Servers!

Mons. Peter has issued an invitation to any Grade 4 - 6 students who have celebrated the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist to train to become altar servers in our parish! This would involve some training sessions and attendance at weekday and weekend masses to gain experience!

We would love to see more of our students learn how to serve on the altar as their participation assists us to fully celebrate our school masses, too!

Please email Mrs. Hicks at mhicks@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au if your child is interested in this important role within our Parish.

NEWS REMINDER - A Call for Choir Members!

An expression of interest meeting will be held on Friday, 28th October at lunchtime for all students who are interested in joining our SCHOOL CHOIR!!

Students from Grade 3 - 6 are invited to join our St. Mary’s School Choir to perform at this year’s Mooroopna Carols in the Park.

Kiwanis are organising the Mooroopna Carols in the Park, 2022, to be held on Saturday, 10th December at 6:30pm. The venue will be the John Gray Oval, Mooroopna.

Students must be willing to participate in choir practise each Friday, from 1.00pm - 1.30pm and during some lunchtimes later in the term.

Please have a conversation with your child/children and email Mrs. Hicks at mhicks@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au if they are interested

in joining the choir for this event!

Thanking you,

Michelle Hicks
