2022/2023 RSL Liaisons

RSL Liaison Students: Outgoing and Incoming

Each year, two Year 11 students represent the College in the capacity as RSL Liaisons. This year we have been most ably represented by Jessica Chirpczuk Morales and Chiara Pezzata. Jessica and Chiara have reflected on their final term as liaisons in the article below. Following a rigorous application process, the students selected as representatives for 2023 are Ella Falzon and Isabella Kasparian. Ella and Isabella introduce themselves in the article below. Both are looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that this leadership position will provide.

Reflection by Chiara and Jessica on their final term as RSL Liaison Representatives

This term as RSL Liaisons, Chiara and Jess have had the most fun. We had an amazing opportunity with the Gallipoli Army Barracks with the other Liaisons. Starting off with Army Personal Training in the morning, we didn’t fully know what we had gotten ourselves into; it was definitely an interesting experience! Throughout the day, we were allowed to crawl around and into the tanks and ASLAVs, and at the end of the day, we even did a simulation of one of the tanks! We trained in the simulator as a gunman for the tank… once again, very interesting experience. We didn’t expect our aim would be that good. For lunch, we were shouted to food in the Soldier’s mess. The hall was massive, and without a doubt, it was a very nice feed.

One week later, all the Liaisons were invited to the RSL Sub-branch Volunteer’s Dinner, to celebrate all the volunteers who have helped the Sub-branch throughout the year. This event was really lovely as all of us students got together to have a nice dinner and dance to some music with our veteran friends. We celebrated our volunteer work with the Kedron-Wavell RSL Sub-Branch throughout the year. Remembrance Day was a solemn ceremony honouring and remembering those who have fallen in war and continue to serve our country.

We the 2022 Student Liaisons laid the wreath for Mount Alvernia during the ceremony, alongside the incoming Student Liaisons for Mount Alvernia 2023. This commemorated the beginning of the handover for the outgoing and incoming RSL Student Liaisons. In the final meeting of December, an official handover will be presented to the RSL Sub-Branch members, saying our final farewell and for RSL Liaisons of 2023, their first hello. We are excited for next year's RSL Liaison Students for Mount Alvernia, Ella Falzon and Isabella Kasparian, to represent the school with pride. For both us students, Jess and Chiara, this role has been the most rewarding and inspiring experience as we are so grateful for all the opportunities.

Introductions from 2023 RSL Liaison Representatives

Hi! My name is Isabella Kasparian and along with Ella Falzon, I was recently chosen as one of the RSL Liaison Officers for 2023. I am most excited for the opportunities to talk with the veterans and hear all their stories! I also cannot wait to work with the other schools involved and of course visiting the Australian War Memorial in Canberra!!

Hello, my name is Ella and I am extremely privileged to be working with Isabella as the 2023 RSL Liaisons! I am very much looking forward to being involved within the RSL community and listening to the stories of the veterans, and being able to get the opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts! I am particularly looking forward to being able to participate and witness the respect and reverence of the ANZAC Day ceremony at the War Memorial in Canberra.
