Students have continued their international adventures in World of Foods over the last few weeks and have travelled to Mexico and China. Mexican Chimichangas were an absolute hit with the travellers who prepared and presented their chimichangas beautifully. Chimichangas were complemented with the colourful salsa they prepared which consisted of avocado, tomato, red onion, corn and chilli, with a squeeze of fresh lime. Over the last two weeks students have excelled in making wonton soup with Asian greens and pork potstickers. Students used store bought wonton wrappers for their soup. The wontons were served in a chicken broth with fresh Asian greens and rice noodles. Last week they made their own dumpling wrappers which they all preferred the taste of, using only two simple ingredients - flour and boiling water. Students developed their skills in producing the dumplings ready to become potstickers and they all devoured their dumplings!
The Year 7s have continued developing their skills and knowledge in a variety of Textile challenges. It has been pleasing to see students achieving success when using the sewing machine! Confidence is increasing and they are looking at ways they can use different techniques to achieve their learning outcomes. Some students are creating some incredible work using hand sewing, and finger knitting!
In Primary Agriculture students have been looking at what the animals at our school produce along with a paddock to plate experience using eggs from the school chickens and spinach and herbs from the kitchen garden. The Year 4/5/6 students had success in raising their sunflower seeds in their newspaper pots.
In Week 4, the 2023 Year 7 students came together for their first Transition for Year 7 2023. Students had the opportunity to get to know each other and find out some interesting facts about each other. Students also challenged themselves in working in two groups to create an obstacle course for each other. This week students will be getting together again for another Transition for Year 7 2023.

We were lucky enough to obtain the services from RIST and AWI to run a short 2 day shearing school at the end of last term, down at the great facilities at the Edenhope Showgrounds. It was an invaluable experience for all the students who attended as they learnt about the whole process of the workings in a woolshed, from penning up sheep, crutching, board skills, wool handling and basic classing to handpiece maintenance and workings; not to mention actually shearing the sheep. It was so good to see all the students try their very best at learning these new skills, as for many of them they were really out of their comfort zones.
Thanks to the Edenhope P and A Society for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities and prepare the area for us and to the Adams family for providing us with the extra sheep we needed to make the days worthwhile.
Our calves continue to grow thanks to the warmer weather and also thanks to the feeder pellets that Andrew and Robyne Rainsford sourced for us, in a much more economical manner. We really do appreciate the extra help that the Rainsford Family have provided the Agriculture program here at school. Hopefully not all of the calves will be too big for their halters by the time of the Show.
Our older steers are also doing well down at Mrs Hauslers farm. We thank the Hausler family very much for allowing us to utilize this area and to put some extra kilograms onto the boys.
The students have propagated several different types of seeds in the green and shade house and the Vegie garden is looking quite productive, despite the lack of sunshine lately. Hopefully the sun will come out again and we will have some great looking produce for the Edenhope Show.
Our earlier lambs are all vaccinated and weaned and are growing nicely despite the overcast weather. We will look to sell these later in the term or as soon as we no longer need the boat to cart them to the sale yards. Thanks to the 9/10 elective class for helping with all the marking, vaccinating etc and a special thanks to my assistant manger Darcy Sambell for always keeping an eye out on the stock and fences, whenever I am away.
Here’s to some Sunshine poking through again sometime soon,
Mrs Francis
