Out and About the School

Year 5 Keepit Dam Excursion

By Savannah Hull and Tess Penny

Last Thursday, at 9am in the morning, we took off to Lake Keepit  for our Year Five camp. After a noisy bus ride we finally made it, ready to begin our endless hours of fun.

As soon as we arrived we headed to our cabins to unpack our bags and change into our water clothes. Then we started our water activities, which included kayaking and canoeing. After three hours on the water we ate lunch…delicious wraps. Then we headed to Keepit Kommando a.k.a The Mud Run! Miss Clift and Mr Crane were courageous enough to join us in stinky, sloppy mud. It was very challenging though heaps of fun and required lots of teamwork. Once we had showered we got in the pool to swim and chill for a bit before dinner.

Dinner was very yummy but we still had one last activity to do before bed. It was the County Fair. The County Fair was where you ran your own stalls and also went around purchasing other services using your teams’ tokens.Year 5 loved the County Fair. We saw lots of surprising and unknown talents from a number of students…who knew that boys could be so good at running a nail and hair salon! It was torrential rain all night so in the morning we packed up before breakfast. Once breakfast was done we loaded up the bus and thankfully got through the water that was already covering lots of the road.

While we were at Lake Keepit we had an excellent time with our friends and teachers. We would love to do it again!

Marg’s Garden

In 2011 St Xavier’s lost one of our most loved teachers, Marg Bryant. Marg was one of the kindest people I have ever met and she brought such calmness and love to every classroom in which she worked. We created a small garden in her memory just outside the Hall but due to the new court etc the garden had to be changed.

Marg’s Garden is now under a large tree surrounded by beautiful plants and calm seating areas. It sits beside our new court and I believe it is better than the original one! Feel free to come in and have a look.

Lunchtime Fun

There are always plenty of activities on offer in the Library at lunch times.

Students leaving

Please contact the office as soon as possible if your child will not be returning to St Xavier's in 2023. Most years have a waiting list with families eager to join the St Xavier's community.

Staying Safe on the Walk Line

During the Covid period many families did the right thing and waited away from the school for their children to walk over the road. As time has gone on the number of children crossing the road has increased dramatically.

In order to keep all the children safe we have had to form two groups to walk across the road.

Group 1 are the children who actually walk home or to a place of work and

Group 2 are children who walk to their parents who are parked across the road.

Group 1 will leave first so the teachers can clearly see them heading off in the right direction. Group 2 will follow after that.

I would encourage parents who park across the road, and do not have babies and toddlers to care for, to walk over and pick up their children from the gate. There is a lot of space and you will be in the car before the walk line leaves school and be in time to collect children from St Mary’s.

Alternatively the Kiss and Drop line is available for a quick pick up.

This is all about us keeping your children as safe as possible and I am sure you will agree it is a worthy request.

Canteen Helpers

Canteen Helpers are desperately needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Please contact the office if you would like to volunteer some time.

Mums, dad, grandparents, friends....anybody who can spare some time would be greatly appreciated. You don't need any experience, just a WWCC. It's a great way to meet some new people and your children love seeing you there!
