SPORT

Term 2 in sport is MASSIVE! Lots of great opportunities and fun to be had. We kicked it off with the HOLT District Soccer Lightning Premiership at Caulfield Park last Friday 23rd April. We took two teams of students from Year 5 and 6. The girls led by Sarah Black worked consistently as a team all day and won their semi final to place them into the grand final and finally finished as runners up for the day.
The boys team were timid to begin with but by the end of the day I saw Lorenzo kick the ball into Max who headed the ball to Alfie who then kicked a goal. Total teamwork got them into the semis and then into the final. In the final they actually played a team from their pool who had beaten them earlier in the day. The team absolutely pulled it together-helped out by a very convincing chant to win the Grand Final! A huge congratulations to all the students who played, a special mention to the coach Mark Imbriano who was flawless in his delivery of messages and on the interchange bench.
It was so fantastic to be finally back out there in our community and watching our school teams playing in a competition. The feel was vibrant from all involved and the parents who came to support were animated and very encouraging! The boys team will now go on to the Beachside Division tournament to be played on Wednesday 21st July at Bailey Reserve, East Boundary Road, Bentleigh. Details regarding this will be sent in an Operoo closer to the date.
The athletics carnival came next, held at Moorabbin Little Athletics club on Tuesday. After a false start the week before, the fairly persistent drizzle couldn’t even dampen the spirits of our awesome community as all of our students ran, threw and jumped into the day. A huge thank-you to all the students for being so resilient and pushing through the rain as well as really having a go at all events. Thank-you to our staff who moved students through each event and supervised them for the day. The last thank-you goes to our tremendous volunteers who stood in the rain all morning with a few sherbies and red skins to keep them going. I cannot thank them enough for all their hard work on this day.
So the results, which I am sure you are already aware of…..
House Spirit Award went to Corbett (Blue House)
And the overall winners were ……… Conquest (Gold House)
The St James Athletics Team will be chosen from the results of the school athletics carnival to compete at the HOLT district athletics carnival on the 6th of September. This team will be announced by the end of term 2.
Now we move into Friday Sport for the Year 5 and 6 students, beginning this Friday 30th April. Please check the Operoo sent last week in regards to all the details for this. Parents are welcome to attend matches/games if they wish.
You will have by now received an Operoo in regards to Cross Country on Friday 14th May. Please also refer to this Operoo for further information.
Thank-you.
