From the Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and Friends of St Norbert College,

“Impossible things are happening every day!”

This beautiful line is from the song “Impossible” performed by Cinderella (Isabella Giuffre) and the Fairy Godmother (Darcy Eyre) in the College musical production of Cinderella: The Enchanted Edition in the Xanten Theatre this week. We reflect on the months, weeks and days that have passed and it is true – impossible things are happening, but more of that shortly.

Firstly, speaking of Cinderella, I applaud the whole cast and crew in wowing the audiences with their beautiful artistic gifts. The accolades afforded our supremely talented students, whether the actors, musicians or back stage, are so richly deserved and I’m certain those who have already seen the performances would attest to this. My heartfelt congratulations to all of the students involved, under the direction of Mr Beins, Miss Hilton, Mrs Crocker, Mrs Freind, Miss Zampino, Mrs Palermo – with the incredible stage designed and created by Mr Mecham, Mr Lawson and Ms Marsh – for their tireless dedication and commitment to this wonderful production – well done to all!!

(Read more about Cinderella on the College Production and Staff in Focus pages of today's newsletter).

Back to the ‘impossible’. I don’t wish to labour the ‘pandemic’ point, but the past few weeks have seen the uncertainty become certain again. Our ability as a school and community to be flexible in such uncertain times proves we can make what seems the impossible, possible. To continue to provide the opportunities of faith and worship, sport and leisure, Parent/Student/Teacher interviews, a musical production and an ANZAC memorial service, all in the midst of a teaching and learning program, is inspiring. We do this with the energy and enthusiasm from staff and students that we have always enjoyed at our College – all with a smile behind the mask!!

It saddens me to hear of the plight of those less fortunate around the world especially in India where many members of our community share close family connections. I thank our staff and students for approaching the wearing of masks with understanding as we undertake the advice of the experts and health professionals. We look forward with optimism that in our College community, state and nation at large, and the wider global community, we will navigate the enormous challenge of this pandemic. We continue to be very lucky to be in relative safety here in Australia and our prayers are always with those brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering so much at this time.

“For with God, nothing is impossible”(Luke 1: 37).

                                                                                                                               God Bless.

Mr S Harvey (Principal)
