Year 10 Author Visit

Last Friday the March 26 award-winning author of ‘Living on Hope Street’ and co-editor of ‘Growing Up Muslim in Australia’, Demet Divaroren, visited the year 10’s at the Kings Park Campus. Demet shared with us her background story of growing up, her struggle with identity and her journey of becoming a writer. Demet Divaroren has given us a new, deeper perspective of Living on Hope Street as she explained how each character is connected to her in different ways. Demet’s writing abilities have been recognised through the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards as well as the Prime Minister's Literary Award and Artist in Residence at Deer Park Art Spaces. It was an honour to have Demet talk to us and we have all been deeply inspired by her words.

Yours faithfully,

Chemical Change

8L2 were excited making and sampling bread in Science. They have learnt that the gorgeous smell of cooking bread is a great example of chemical change.

Pathways

Welcome to 2021 academic year and the end of term 1.

Considering this term was only 10 weeks long we managed to pack a whole lot into our careers program at Kings Park.

Morrisby Test Year 9

Year 9 – our first day of term commenced with our 2021 year 9 cohort undertaking the Morrisby Test.  Two weeks later each student was assigned a one to one consultation with a Careers Counsellor. This half hour session enabled the counsellor to discuss various areas of the student’s Morrisby report. These discussions highlight the strengths and weaknesses as well as possible suitable careers for the student.

Our next and final round of catch up session for year 9’s will take place in the second week of term 2. Please remind your child to look out for their Compass notification shortly.

ABCN

At Copperfield College we are supported by a range of industry networks. The Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) is one that plays a vital role in linking our students with corporate industries and programs including but not limited to “My Career Rules” hosted by Fuji Xerox recently.  These events enable our students to be exposed to the professional world guided by high level executives engaging students through interactive activities and Q&A sessions. As a result our students relate their learning in the classroom to learning in the real world and are able to explore possible career opportunities.

Career Lessons

Year 10 - Students have had their first of many Career Lessons this term. Our Careers Program with year 10’s will continue until the end of August when students will finalize their subject choices in preparation for their VCE/VCAL/VET programs at our senior campus. Parents are always encouraged to partake in their child’s career development.  To assist with this we offer both Webex appointments and/or on site meetings. Please refer to the following link to schedule an appointment with me. https://www.copperfieldcollegecareers.com/appointment-booking

Work Experience Year 10

To complement year 10 student’s careers pathway the undertaking of at least one week Work Experience is highly recommended. To minimise learning disruption the first and last week of every term are allocated to this program. Work Experience provides the student the opportunity to explore a pathway that they may consider for their future profession.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information regarding any of the career related programs offered at Copperfield College – Kings Park Campus.
