The Swimmer's Dream

Story of Y10 International Student, Gloria L

On 23/03/2021, Y10 International student Gloria, was the only student from Heathmont College selected to participate in the School Victoria, Eastern Metropolitan Region, Swimming Carnival.

We are so proud that Gloria has achieved her best result ever in such a prestigious event:

  • Her Women 16 Years Old 50 LC Meter Freestyle is 31.79 seconds
  • Her Women 16 Years Old 50 LC Meter Butterfly is 35.35 seconds though she was under 16 years old at that time.

Gloria started her swimming lessons at the age of 7, with 2 hours daily training. She was classified National Level 2 swimmer at the age of 12 in China.

Gloria told us that the main reason she chose to study in Australia is that her swimming idol is Ariarne Titmus.  Another reason is that Australia has a long, beautiful ocean coastline where she can swim.

Gloria has continued her swimming training since she commenced her study at Heathmont College. Every morning she gets up at 4:30 am and has already finished her 2 hours swimming training at Ringwood Aquanation before she attends class! Gloria has made a lot of local friends through her swimming training.  She shared with us that the advantage of swimming is to keep her body fit and to improve her perseverance and endurance by developing a positive attitude.  Her dream is to be a qualified swimming referee, coach or even a lifeguard! We wish her good luck with her study and hope that her dream will come true.
